In wall speaker tips

For my surrounds I am going to use 6 1/2 in walls due to my limited options. The problem is my walls are wood paneling and I have no access to behind the paneling. To insure the best possible sound I plan on creating an extra baffle/frame to add to the outside of the wood paneling to give it some extra stiffness. I imagine 1/2 mdf an 1/2 inch wider on each side than the grill, slightly beveled as it meets the wall to visually ease the transition, with cutcouts for the woofer and tweeter. Also stuff the wall cavity with some insulation.

Anybody have any other ideas.

The wood trim isn't a bad idea, but I don't think it is going to look great visually IMO. if you could get the support behind the paneling it might work just as well and look a lot better. Otherwise, you might just consider ON-wall speakers and mount them into a stud.

On wall project too far, in front of a doorway. The wood paneling is white as is the speaker grill. I would paint the mdf baffle white also and would blend in well.

I guess I can try to brace the woodpaneling nearby the hole I create in the paneling.

Support behind the wall

I have a similar issue and have determined that a 14 1/2" square piece of mdf (to fit between your studs) with the cutout for your speaker on center will work well to give the extra support you need. just cut it into 2 or four pieces after you make it, cut the hole in you wall/ceiling and glue that baby in with some gorilla glue or liquid nails. If you put this behind the paneling, you will get the support you need and the aesthetics most desire. Also consider putting some dynamat behind the speakers to isolate the sound. I'll take pictures of my set up and post them before too long.
