I am in the market for a new preamp for my home hteater. My budget will be under $1000 (hopefully less). I would like to find one with some good features and flexability. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Yamaha 2500 is a great preamp plus you'll have some power to use for other zones if you wish. You may want to check out www.av123.com they have a budget pre/pro coming out very soon Emotiva Ultra light (haven't heard anything about this one yet though since it hasnt been released but their big pre/pro got some good reviews. Another good option would be the outlaw audio 990, www.outlawaudio.com I'm sure there are some other great ones but those are the only 3 I can think of in your budget.

Spiffy's got you covered. You could pick up a Yamaha 2500 for well under $1k, or a 1500 for about $600 and use it as your pre amp. Gene recommended using the 2500 and an emotiva amp for a high quality seperates set up. It seems like a lot of the guys on this site are talking about the very high quality of the preout section of these receivers. Also the internal amp gives you the option of a powered second zone and since it's Yamaha you could give presence speakers a go and see how you like that setup. Also like spiffy said there are the offerings from Emotiva and outlaw for preamps inthe $1000 range.
