In Need Of A System

I am looking for a system that I can use for my laptop and Ipod. I bought the Altec Lansing computer speakers with a sub, but am not impressed with the weakness of the subwoofer. Anyone have any ideas of a good strong sub and clear speakers I can use for both? I want something with a lot of bass. It also needs to be under 300. Thanks

Here is what I have: http://www.alteclansing.com/product_details.asp?pID=VS3121
Maybe they have a bigger sub I can get?

Check out the Logitech line. I have the older Z-680’s [5.1] which has a 188-watt subwoofer. Four 62-watt satellites and a 69-watt center channel. Not sure what the newer models are, but they are generally well reviewed. also have a 2.1 system I bought for my wifes PC, both perform vey well.

They're not that powerful. The subwoofer is rated to 100WRMS, and the sats are 15WRMS.

Even that is a stretch.

Check out the Audioengine 5 powered bookshelf speakers in your budget. They do not include a sub but do have a line level output for one. They got good reviews from AH and Secrets of HT. When you save another $200, consider adding the Onix X-sub from AV123.com to reinforce the low end.
