I need a new sub the one I have is very under powered for the size of my room. About 22 x 18. I'm looking to spend about $1500 I was looking at the JL e-112. What do you think of this sub and any other options that would be better.

The E112 is a very impressive sub for its size!
If you don't need the compact size, you can get better performance for less.
If you need the compact size, they are the ticket!
Can you get an E112 for $1500?

I assume space is not an issue since the room is 18x22.

You can get the big RBH SX-1212N for about $1K. Just add your own amp like the Crown XLS2000 or any other amp.

If size doesn't matter and you're looking for best bang for your buck - these are top candidates:

https://reaction-audio.myshopify.com/collections/subwoofers/products/echo-18?variant=1107637857
http://www.powersoundaudio.com/collections/subwoofers/products/v1800

for a bit less money, but still very powerful sub:

a bit above budget, but you could get Dual ULS-15 MK2 for $1500 + $140 shipping or pick it up from their Anaheim, CA shop yourself if you're live nearby :)

I would tend to regard the JL subwoofers as firstly a lifestyle product. As a bonus it is high performance. The extra money your spend comparative to many of the products we recommend here is "lifestyle product" cost.

Bare in mind that many off the products we might recommend will be significantly larger than the JL but will likely offer far greater performance.

SVS is certainly worth your consideration. They offer some of the nicer looking subwoofers for the money as well as having (potentially) an smaller footprint to kind of fill that "lifestyle" feel you get from JL audio's products.

I'm curious to understand (and I mean this honestly, not sarcastically) what you mean by 'lifestyle product'… Aesthetics? Footprint?

(I have a Fathom 110 which I quite like but is also pretty pricey ;).

It's small and shiny.

There are much more capable subwoofers available but they might not be as attractive (which is totally subjective of course).

Yep… I'll pay extra for small and shiny. ;) That having been said, the JL Audio subs are pretty capable, but I assume you mean more capable for the money.

I meant more capable in all sorts of ways. There are some subs that cost much less than the JLs but are far more capable. There are some that cost more that are also more capable. There are also many subwoofers that cost more or less but aren't as capable. If you like small and shiny and are happy with the performance and price then that's great :)

Yep, it works well for me in my living room (and not a dedicated HT room).

I just want the most performance for my money it does not have to be small and shiny. My number one is performance, one that great for music and can also shake the room on a movie.

Then I would agree - pre-order price on this sub is simply outstanding value. Probably best performance per dollar you could get
All of the aforementioned subs are very capable, but if it were me and with your room I'd jump on this pre-order http://jtrspeakers.com/home-audio/captivator-118ht/
btw: if in addition to "room shaking" you want do do walls demo - this will probably do it, while running full steam:
http://jtrspeakers.com/home-audio/captivator-218ht/ - Pre-Order price is sold out - understanding so - but even at full 2k price - it will still offer unmatched performance/value

It's basically stylish audio equipment.

It's not a put down at all. If cost was no object and I had a beautiful home I would buy high quality lifestyle products, I'm not going to lie.

Rythmiks F25 featuring twin 15" drivers in a sealed cabinet MSRP is $1500 looks to be an outstanding value as well..
