Lets make this simple, and not to complicated. Just add a couple of wood braces just to cut down on any vibration within the truss, or joist area. Then go get some insulation (Owens Corning) and insulate the area.

YES, I do want to use the stuff. I've been packratting it for years now, and I need to prove to the wife that sometimes these things are useful to keep around.

Just remember that it's going to get very hot up there and that "Stuff" you want to use. The adhesive has a tendency to come lose, and you don't want it falling on the top of the speaker.

Good point. The spray is some super adhesive state of the art goop that comes out tar-like, and adheres to anything. It turns rock hard (even paintable) when cured. It typically applies in very thin layers 1/32". I will certainly take note when spraying it so as not to have the potential for stuff falling onto the speakers.

Here's a link to the stuff I'm using. However, I've noticed it's come way down in price. When I got my stuff, it was like $70+ a can. Now it's dirt cheap. Well, I suppose it was pretty cutting edge when I got it, so they could charge anything they wanted.

Take pictures of the speakers before installation. Also take pictures of what you do inside the ceiling. Then when all is finished take more pictures and post them here.

OK, so I installed the speakers...

OK, so they're in. I'm not disappointed, but they do not sound as good as the sales guy claimed (of course). I wasn't expecting them to. (the poor performance is mainly in the soundstage and "openess". They sound like... in-ceiling speakers. Granted, the front speakers by design are angled to help provide a better soundstage, buts its not like an enclosed speaker at ear level (of course).

The install went cleanly (I'll post an install thread with pics). I wound up creating a semi-enclosure (bracing) using 3/4" board, silicone, dynamat, and batt insulation.

Once you blend them in with a good sub, they will sound good.
