I have a 50" Sony SXRD rear projection TV and a Sony DVD player with HDMI and with 720p/1080i upscaling. When I watch movies that have dark scenes that are computer generated, such as Sin City or any movie where people are driving at night, I see a green color in the greys. Its all over Sin City. Is this green color from the HDMI cable, the DVD player or something else? Do I need a better DVD player, or is there something I can do to it to get rid of this green tint?

Does is only happen when watching DVDs? If not, you may be a victim of the "green blob". It's a common problem with SXRD sets and the only remedy is to replace the light engine. Is the set under warranty?

If it's only visible when watching DVDs then it is not the green blob. I would try a different HDMI cable and see if that fixes it.

Have you or ISF properly calibrated the TV display? Grey scale may be off, green driver may be too much. Out of box TV usually is way off where it should be set.

For moment I thought it was the green pixels that often, well sometimes appear due to a dirty disc.

I used the AVIA DVD to calibrate the TV. It is calibrated to what they suggested.

Try a different cable for sure. As someone said before, if it's only with DVD's it's not the green blob.

I tried 3 different cables and they all had the same result. The problem was actually the settings on the DVD player. I played around with them until the problem was fixed. Thanks for all the help.

What was it in the DVD player that caused this?

There was a setting that had the option for YCbCr/RGB(HDMI). I had it set for YCbCr not RGB. When I switched it to RGB it looked 100% better. I must have overlooked that setting when I was trying to fix the problem.

When I first got Component video cables (6 or so years ago) I had them hooked up wrong.
That created a green effect.

Just a suggestion, even though you probably are not using component video cables.
