I'm ready for duals- but oh the choices....

I'm ready to purchase a second sub to supplement my current 2.1 rig. I have Snell D7 towers and an Outlaw X12.

My conundrum is this: would you purchase a matching Outlaw X12 that is a rather "long in the tooth" design coming from 2017, or just buy a pair of more modern and updated duals like SVS PB 1000 or 2000 Pros?

The older design SVS PB 2000's in the outlet are tempting price for a pair.

I love the downfiring Outlaw design and satin finish, and have been certainly happy with the sub. I dislike the cheesy black oak SVS plasticky finish, but the SVS is a more modern and updated amp and driver design, and everyone raves about them in the forums and reviews found.

HSU seems to really be due for some fresh updates, so I am apprehensive to pull the trigger on them. I dislike the previous Monolith chiseled corner models, and the newer 12" Monoliths don't really seem to best the Outlaw too much when comparing CEA specs.

I am looking for subs in the $700ish each price bracket.

The X12 isn't all that long in the tooth in terms of performance. It is about on the same level of its competing subs, although I would expect the Monolith 12 to have a bit more output below 30Hz. The PB-2000 might have a slight performance edge below 30Hz than the X12. Any of these subs are very good and well worth the money at around $700.

The Monolith 12", VTF-2, or PB-2000 would all be good matches for the Outlaw X12. They all have approximately the same tuning points and dynamic range. The Mono 12" would have a bit more headroom in deep bass though.

Ooh boy, I was wrong on that one for sure. The X12 specs I was looking at from the Butterworth review I was using were the 1m peaks, not the 2m. Comparing the X12 specs to the Monolith M12 using the 2m specs- the Monolith takes it for sure from 40Hz and down.

Be careful with peak specs those are max outbursts only rated to be driven for a short time. Not likely to be done driving them at normal levels.

At normal levels all these subs should perform very similar to each other they are all great subs. No choice you can make is a bad choice here

If it were me I'd buy a second X12 and save a lot of money. You'll get similar performance to duals of anything else on that list. Lot less money spent

Well, I snagged another X12 on sale just in time before the price jumped back up. I chose to go with logic and economic sense versus FOMO. I never had a single complaint about my current X12, so a second ultimately seemed a no-brainer.
