Well rather then swap out a bunch of dvds when guys come over to check out the setup, I figured I'd just put together a demo dvd and was wondering what movie clips you would put on a demo Surround sound dvd for your friends enjoyment.

What I've decided on thus far:

Master & Commander (scene 4)

House of the Flying Daggers (bean scene)

LOTR's Return of the King (green light, ch. 11)

Behind Enemy Lines (Jet Mission)

I'm looking for a few others.......They don't have to have super bass....just great surround sound dynamics!

thanks in advance for your imput! :)

Matrix - tons of scenes, but a few classics are when Neo and Trinity go to rescue Morpheus. When they walk through the metal detector and the assault begins. Also when they are on top of the roof and agent Smith shows up and shoots the bullets at Neo - sounds like a jet flying over = awesome!!

U-571 - DTS (Depth Charged)

Gladiator - DTS (The scene where he's fighting that dude and the tigers are jumping out.

Jurrasic Park - DTS (T-Rex scene- This has always been one of my favorites)

Hero - DTS (I just saw the scene where the girls are fighting in the yellow trees and that scene is off the hook)

Check out the scene listings on the DTS demo discs. They have a lot of good material, including some of the stuff already listed.

Darkness Falls - great surround, just not a great movie.

The Haunting DTS-ES - very similar deal: OK movie, excellent surround.

Opening scene of Contact.

Saving Private Ryan DTS - "The Alamo", and of course the Omaha Beach scene.

There's one movie that I don't remember the name of. It had Holly Hunter and there's a scene where she's thinking about something, and you hear different thoughts randomly in each of the speakers. It was a very cool effect, though I don't remember the movie being that great, or I would have remembered the name...:) *edit found it - it was Living Out Loud.

The opening scene on X2 with Nightcrawler is pretty tight too.

jaxvon, where do you pick something like that up? I'd be interested in purchasing a decent demo if I can find one. Are they expensive?

There are some floating around. Also check ebay. I found a few there. If you are a stickler for original copies, watch what you bid on. Many people on ebay are selling copied disks. I don't mind them but the price should match.

Also ... the scene that hooked me in to HT was one of a rocket taking off in Apollo 13

I have a few demo discs from different sources. The DTS discs are some of the best and can be quite costly if you buy an original. The THX discs are like pulling teeth to get!

There is a guy in Germany that sells them (actually just #9) at about 35-40 a pop. (originals only)
Yeah, I have a few (about 10) DTS demo discs, and I have found the best is DTS Demo #9.
It has DTS, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, DTS Neo 6, etc.. Both in music and movie scenes.

Also not listed yet, and a few would agree for great surround sound (not major low bass)
Is Austin Powers Goldmember in DTS-ES (6.1), also Top Gun in DTS-ES.
Both have superb surround sound, in many scenes.

EDIT:: The worst DTS disc I have heard was Labyrinth, actually Dolby Digital on this disc is better.
But to get it in DD (5.1), you have to get the DTS version anyways.

EDIT #2:: Also I'm sure a few have seen this. Revenge of the Sith will be in Dolby Digital EX 6.1 So it may have some killer surround sound. I will get this on the day it comes out :)

Episode 1 & 2 are also in EX (they all are, aren't they?) and both have some great scenes for demoing too.

Finding Nemo has some excellent color too. Quite a few scenes.
