Since it is clear that people can not agree to the color, I am suprised that mike c has not yet provided images aquired under the settings I specified in order to present a more accurate depiction of the color.

I noted that too. Maybe he's just ignoring your suggestion. But this is the steam vent, so I truly thought he was joking. I'll therefore recant my earlier proclamation of "seafoam green and chartreuse," and simply state "green and green." Since there's really no better word for it, I'll borrow Clint's...sheesh.

sorry chris, i tried last night ... but discovered that I dont know how to change white balance settings ... for the record, I have the canon digital rebel 300d.

I couldnt get the "AWB" automatic white balance setting off, even in the manual modes

EDIT: never mind, I found a Point and Shoot camera with those settings. will post pics in a few hours

Refer to the user manual. You should know how to set white balance in any case, because this is a critical step in capturing high quality images. Auto white balance is rarely accurate, and should not be used except for when there is no opportunity to set white balance manually.

sunlight white balance - no flash ... (yes I tried stabilizing on something, but even the pressing of the shutter button causes fuzziness)

same camera with flash again

I'm leaning towards green as well with the latest set of non flash pics.

But I still see a tinge of yellow mixed in there. I don't know, I've never been very good at differentiating these 2 colors.

As to camera, there should be a delay setting on my camera. If you enable it, after you press the shutter, the camera wont take a picture until 2 or 5 seconds later. That should help with camera shake.

I remember in an undergrad bio seminar, the seminar presenter tested each of us on which portion of the visible EM spectrum we are most sensitive to. Most people are very sensitive to the yellow/green portion. Not me. Try to show me something in yellow on any kind of background, I can hardly make out the outlines. I'm more sensitive to green. But I found I am most sensitive to the purple portion of the visible EM spectrum. Show me anything in purple against any background (excluding a purple background, and some hideous red, pink background), I can make out most of the details.

If you are color blind in the yellow region, why should anyone, let me repeat that, ANYONE listen to you when you say you "see a tinge of yellow mixed in there."?

I'm just having fun in these wee hours, as I think you are. Your points on photography are well taken though. Cheers.

that PoS camera is one of the first generation digicams and dont have that much features yet. I lent my Canon Ixus camera to my dad (that one had a ton of features - even those reserved for photoshop)

I currently use this low end SLR simply for its low shutter lag delay and continuous shooting (I take pics of fish ... I need them to still be there after pressing the shutter button)

Well, technically it's not a 100% yellow color blindness per say. It's really a deficiency in my eyes' ability to detect yellow color.

Anyways, I can still see yellow, just not that well.

And talk about digital cameras. If you want a brighter picture, play with the shutter setting, 1/30 sec, 1/10 sec, 1 sec, 2 sec, etc. The longer the exposure, the brighter the picture, even in a dark room. But you need to place the camera on a tripod or leave it on a steady surface. Any camera movement or subject movement during these long exposures will cause blur.

I had a lot of fun with long exposures. Do something like this. Set the exposure time to 1-2 sec. Take out you favorite laser pointer. Press the shutter. Draw any funny object against a dark background in the alotted 1-2 sec time. Take a look at the picture, you'll be pleasantly surprised. :)

Mike C, upon close up examination of the new pictures, you still have a problem with the exposure that makes it difficult to discern: the light is over-exposed. The green and red channels are clipped. However, the reflection of the light from the nearby knob and edges makes me suspect it's a green. To be sure, you need to increase the shutter speed by about 4x or 5x to prevent clipping and post the new picture.

axiom has replied. green. woohoo. still doesnt work though. :(

axiom suggested I test with direct source from dvd/cd player - didnt work.
they also suggested I check the wires (probably knocked loose during shipping - nope. I opened up the box and everything is tight, I removed the amp and speaker from the box to facilitate testing.

his new suggestion is ...

You (not me, but a repair shop) would simply need the repair person to tone test and replace the damaged fuse on the power supply using a 250 milliamp fuse 'F2'.

any of you techy guys understand what this 250 milliampfuse is? what does this fuse look like?

no radioshack here. I will ask a friend who is an electrical engineer for advice. (though he doesnt practice any of his craft)

does this milliamp fuse look like tiny batteries?
