I think I'd go 2 RBH 1266-SE, 1 RBH 661-SE, 2 RBH 66-SE and pick up a sub later.

I think it would be wise to figure out whether you want direct radiators, bipolars, planars or electrostats. Once you have that part down, its a little easier to narrow down the choices a bit.

If I was given $5k with the stipulation that it must be spent on speakers, I'd go for either:

1) A pair of Salk Veracity HT3's or
2) A pair of Selah Peridots or
3) Monitor Audio GR-20's, GR Center & GF/X surrounds.

For just about $5K street price I would go with the following:

Polk Audio LSi15 Towers
Polk Audio LSiC Center Channel
Polk Audio LC265i In-ceiling rears ( x3 )
Velodyne HGS-15X Subwoofer

Great for music - AWESOME for movies...

I would get those towers, and a nice subwoofer. They are the best sounding towers I have ever heard. The midrange is so clean, and have a great bass response.

I have been curious about the RBH, haven’t heard them. I have heard a pair of VMPS monitor spks fill up a room of your size with a phenomenal quality of sound. The ribbon mid-range is amazing, sets the VMPS apart from everything else out there. As was already mentioned, J Garcia’s input should not be over looked, either.

Phase Tech PC series Speakers. THere was a great review of these speakers in this forum. Or Some one else posted the Energy Veritas. Either one of those 2 will do you VERY Well.

PS: Monitor Audio's rock too!

$5000 to listen to TV???

Come on, now! Are you serious? I'd say that to listen to TV, you could easily jam to Connie Chung for under $1,000. Give me the extra $4k for the advice. Just kidding... sort of! If you have that kinda money to throw at TV speakers, more power to you!

I have hit a few dealers, and am told that if I want to reproduce the sound better than what I have at this point, I need to drop about 8k on speakers.

I am using NHT VT-2 fronts with a matching center speaker, and NHT surrounds.

Or..Mirage

OM-5
OM-C2
two pairs of OM-9s or OM-R2 surrounds

an OM-200 sub if more bass is really necessary (it isnt)

Mirage is replacing the OM line with "OM Design" in early '06, which means nice discounts on the last of the current series.

The Mirage's have a mile-wide soundstage, and can work extremely well in almost any room with little or no treatment.

I would put together a set of Final Sound speakers with a JL Audio Sub. I like the Electrostatic Sound (heard these against the MBL 101e which were much better) and they are the best for the money as far as I am concerned. I bought a set and can't wait for delivery.

Axiom

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Axiom yet. The company is actualy called "Axiom Home Theatres". That should tell you something. This would be well under $5,000. You could get their top of the line system for around $3,800. Some people call their speakers bright, others accurate, but this slight forwardness is what so many people think sounds fantastic for HT applications! And how about those quad-polar surrounds, quite enveloping! I guess it really depends on if you want to go direct radiating or not. But this looks like a good system for HT. I'm really close to getting some Axioms myself b/c of this sonic characteristic. I'm looking for something for mainly movies. Some may not like the forward sound, especially for music (although others do), but it seems like alot of people really like that sound for watching movies!
