warp, how do you control volume and change music? very nice setup btw ... very very neat too with all the equipment hidden.

at first look, i thought your JL sub was on fire :)

Hehehhe Thanks Mike I use the Pronto TSU-9600, the expansiveness of that remote is amazing... sweet looking full VGA color screen.

The lamp was a birthday present from a very close girly friend of mine... It really looks awesome...

Nothing new here. Switching amps have been with us for a long time. Most powered subwoofers have switching amps. What is different is the price. You can't sell things to high end audiophiles cheaply. It doesn't work. High end audiophiles only buy outlandishly overpriced products.

These might be a good choice for a couple of hundred dollars. I don't know and I'm not going to find out. With all that efficiency comes distortion. Whether or not it is audible is something I don't know either and, again, I'm not going to find out. I view this whole thing with restrained enthusiasm, I'm afraid.

Oh forgot to add, I modded my Xbox and run XBOX Media Center, so I stream movies and music from either my server or my Dual Terabyte NAS drive...

Its really nice to have all the equipment down there hidden, really cleans up that room, which the women really like as well. The only thing I had to run was speaker wires, sub cable, and the HDMI cable. Nice and clean....

D-Sonic IcePower Amps

I have a D-Sonic 2000-5, five channel amp in my system driving Dali Helicon 400 speakers. For the record, the D-Sonic amps are fantastic amps at a great price point compared to other IcePower amp manufacturers. The IcePower amps produce a very clean, neutral sound. Someone earlier in this thread referred to Class-D amps as digital amps. The IcePower class-D amps are not digital amps. They are class-D analog switching amps. I've attached a couple of photos of my amp. The first is a photo of the amp in my rack under the Integra 9.8. The second is a photo of the inside of the amp from the rear. As you can see, the amp contains both balanced and un-balanced connectors. Each channel has its own amp module, so you get 525 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 1000 watts per channel into 4 ohms from each of the front, center, & left channels and 250 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 500 watts per channel into 4 ohms from each of the surround channels. In my opinion, the D-Sonic amps are very simple and elegant, and an increadible value for what you get.

np, alternatives and options are good ... especially the 220v European models :)

(though d-sonic said 220v was no problem)
The B&O modules are 110/220v swichable, yes, so there's usually no problem with buying Ice from anywhere.

These 5-channel boxes are very tempting even if they are really ugly...

fmw, Kal R of stereophile has BelCanto ref1000s running his 802D and my guess he is more critical than most here.

You've got way more power than you need I'm sure.
I do. But, its nice to have power. The Dali's are rated to 112 db. One night I wanted to see just how far I could turn the volume up on the 9.8. I had it up to +15 and pulled out the old Radio Shack SPL meter and measured 107 db. The D-Sonic amp was feeding the Dali's with all the clean, neutral power they could take There wasn't the slighest bit of distortion and the speakers weren't straining in the least bit. It was like being in the center of the front row of live rock concert.

Here's a picture of the whole setup.
Now thats some sexy $hit right there.... I love the look of the Dali's, have always been curious of how they sounded... I have had my eye on the Euphonia MS-5's... but I have to get down to Chicago to have a listen, then I would be off to Audiogon where the deals are to be had... http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1215268655
Thats what I'm talkin about !!! :)
I'm sure I must have seen you on the D-Sonic Thread at AVS, is this your handle there as well.. :)

No. Its speedoflight. The Dali's sound fantastic. I had the opportunity to buy a pair of Euphonia's when I bought the Helicon's but the Euphonia's are much larger speakers (physical size), than the Dali's and I figured they would be too much for my room.

Sorry for the bump, but I'm glad I stumbled onto this thread. I am strongly considering an ICE-powered amp (probably from D-Sonic). All I want is 2-channel (I don't care about 5.1+), so I'm looking at the Magnum 1000s (I think)... The only thing holding me back is the complaints I've read about such Class D amps being poor performers for higher frequencies. Gonna have to do some more reading, I guess...

I very recently started giving Class D amps a listen and I think most of the complaints are outdated. I've heard the Rotel 1085 (Icepower) and the Emotiva DMR-1 (D2Audio) recently and found Class D amps are as good as their Class AB cousins and use less power to boot. That in itself says something. My only complaint is that the technology is still relatively new and a bit pricey, but with time I'm sure that'll change.

If they complained about a mechanical defect I would take it seriously. But what they are stating is simply THEIR preference which is NOT relevant to YOU and is probably biased towards the older well established technology.

Alot of people hate change & trying something new because it takes them out of their comfort zones.

I wasn't impressed with Rotel's RMB 1077 100wpc digital offering, but when I listened to their 500wpc digital amp I was very impressed and couldn't tell the difference between that & their RMB 1095 traditional amp.

Let your own ears be the judge of what sounds good. Try it, you will probably love it.

Strangely, I bought a class D amp recently. It is in a Yamaha powered mixer. 190 wpc into 8 ohms, 300 into 4 ohms and 400 into 2 ohms. All the specs are appropriate for high fidelity sound reproduction. $469 and 22 lbs. It is nothing short of spectacular for the price.

I have a D-Sonic 2000-5. It performs just fine at high frequencies. You will not be dissapointed with the 1000s
