The oppo does have volume control on its analogue outs, actually.
So there is a volume knob on the front of the Oppo player to control the analog volume output?

So have you actually turned the volume knob to Zero to see if it cuts off the volume completely or is that just a theory?

It's not a volume knob, but the oppo remote changes the player's volume on the analog out.

No, I haven't tried it, but according to page 27 of the manual, setting volume to zero will turn sound completely off.

Also..

Page 14 of the BDP-83 English Manual said:
Please use 8 RCA-style audio interconnect cables to connect the FL (Front Left), FR (Front
Right), SL (Surround Left), SR (Surround Right), C (Center), SW (SubWoofer), SBL (Surround
Back Left) and SBR (Surround Back Right) analog output terminals of the OPPO Blu-ray Disc
player to the corresponding multi-channel analog audio input jacks of your A/V receiver or
amplifier.
Again, It's impractical to have to run to your 7ch amp and switch inputs manually, but it could certainly be considered an bonafide "stripped down" solution.

It's even got a setup menu where you can set speaker trims/distances/sizes. Crossover AFAIK is fixed at 80hz though. This is all in the manual - I don't own a BDP-83

And does the volume default back to the high volume, or will it stay put @ "off" every time the Oppo powers up?

I am getting my new MRX 700 in a couple of weeks!! I have done a/b with yammy and there is a clear, clear, difference between Yamaha "power" and Anthem "power." The torroidal transformer on the 700 just blows away most of the competition, imo. So it lacks a few HDMI's, most people don't need them.

Clear clear difference?

Receivers in this price range today do not add any coloration to the audio. The MXR-700 puts out 94watts into 5ch & 71watts into 7ch driven. The price comparable Yamaha RX-A3000 puts out 66watts into 5ch & 61w into 7ch. I dont think anyone could "hear" 30 watts. Plus if it was demoed in 2 channel they have almost identical power (Yamaha has 20w more actually)

I dont know what the Anthem sells for but MSRP is $1999. If power was big on the needs list & i if i had $2000 id get the RX-A1000 & Emotiva XPA-5. This would get ya all the bells you want & 200watts with 5 channels driven. Over double the power & you WILL start to notice a difference.

My point is, at $2000 all receivers will sound the same in PureDirect mode which is how demoes should take place. If you want to hear differences in how the AutoCalibrations will EQ a system thats another story...

Well congrats on the new Anthem! Not many around here have them so we hope you let us know what you think of it & post pics!!
