I voted early last week. Unfortunately, I had to do the electronic crap, since paper ballots are only available on election day. However, that's the deal. C'est la vie!

Voted very bright and early and it took close to an hour. Much bigger turn-out than I have ever seen! Usually only takes about 5-10 minutes.:eek:

Cheers,

On a related note, I'm watching the election coverage. I'm always amazed at how the reporters will speak with such certainty on the outcome of an election when there's only a few thousand votes difference between the candidates...and less than 10% of the votes counted.

It's because of exit polls and more specifically where the votes come in from. Most precincts have very easily recognizable voting patterns....so they can make these calls pretty efficiently.

Except of course in Florida :D.

Good points. I get that, but we vote for a reason...speculation on how people will vote isn't always right. ;)

It's like they feel the need to fill a few hours of TV on election night. I'd rather be watching NCIS and find out tomorrow. :)

Yea, I'm pissed Fringe isn't on tonight ... there are enough damn news channels that I can turn to if I need to know which of these dopes is winning.

I did vote btw, a straight ticket ... straight 3rd party. My polling station is about 500 feet from my back porch, so I sat out there and waited for the line to drop, then walked over. And I smoked a cigar while in line, just to be as obnoxious as possible.

my wife and I got in and out at lunch time in 5 minutes. Of course it helps that our voting location happened to be at the club house of my community :)

Spkr_Bldr, welcome to a Change You Can Believe In.....a one party system.
Its not about parties and red and blue or he said she said, America and the world needs to realize that its about something bigger than you or me or a country, its about the human race, and the small planet we all live on. I think this is going to be a good thing for this country and instead of people fighting over whos wrong and who did what or whatever we all need to work together towards a common goal.

Is Obama this change? No. are you kidding, no single person could do that. Jesus tried and didnt do too bad of a job, but even thats been twisted and turned to be used to someone else's ideals and turned against us. I think it is however a good step in the right direction because Obama seems grounded and sincere.

You want a real change you can believe in?, Then when you wake up tomorrow do one good thing for someone else without expecting even a thank you, Appreciate something you havent noticed before, and dont think its crazy to believe that someday a change would come that could finally bring peace and happiness to everyone.

Agree with you a lot :D

Looking at this from the outside, I'm uncertain how much the US president really has to say, of course it's very important and I believe that Obama may provide a positive change to how the outside world think about US, hopefully to the economy too

Now most people around the world are to the extent so intelligent that they know the difference from the ordinary hard working American citizen from the street.... and the US president. No US president will ever change that.

So in order to make a change, don't wait for politicians to do the change, do the change yourself :D
Isn't that the American way to do things?

Those are beautiful and eloquent Utopian yearnings, Haoleb. To live in peace with all the world. Yeah, we want that. Too bad the reality of national and international power politics doesn't work that way. Nor do most individuals think that way. Until you have a world filled only with Christs and Buddhas expect the power to rule one's destiny (and that of others sometimes) to be the big societal motivator...as it has throughout the history of mankind. Everyone wants the power to live his or her life his or her way. Remember, where people live together, rules must be in place to define interactions. No matter how long this civilization survives, there will always be agreement and disagreement on the RULES.

But you and I agree. What you said would not be about who did or said what to whom or politics or who got elected. What I said was about politics and only hinted at how this election will negatively affect the nation.

who are making the differences, and which people make the difference

What does the president do:
- He talks to people, does he do any really hard work?
- He hands out money that's not his own
- He steers away from anything that may involve a physical hazard
- How often does a president make dinner for his wife and kids?
- How often does a president have to worry financially about making the ends meet?

How can a president make sound decisions, because once he is president his life is so far from what ordinary people live.... and people tend to forget very quickly, does he know what are the challenges that people in the street meet every day, has he ever faced this himself, or if he has, how quickly does he forget about this while eating lobster and drinking champagne?

It's the ordinary people that work day and night that make the changes to US or any other country for that sake, how much value has ever come from senators or any kinds of politician or president. President may be a catalyzer for change, but darn if he changes anything himself.....

It's not the president that save people's lives, for one... it's all these soldiers operating in Afghanistan or Iraq putting their own lives at stake to save the life of a family and their kids. There are people doing that all the time and many of them are killed.

Sure US is going to change with Obama, but it's not Obama that's doing the changes...
He just talks and decides.... and talk doesn't change anything......

so now I'm running for COVER.........
