I think Wmax (Chris) may have ripped me off.

Also, I have personally met randyb, and have communicated with him numerous times over the last 5 years so. I have found him to be one of the most unbiased people I have come across on these audio forums.
Do you know which speakers he has now and how these virtual ones were supposed to fit into the mix?

I had a situation not to long ago. I promised someone a poweramp. Now this is what happened: One of my workers blew his amp and I lend him this amp. I told him this amp is spoken for, when this guy decides to come up this way I need this amp back. Well I ended up firing this worker and I thought that amp is going with him. I was getting a little worried and I told my wife if I loose this amp I have to buy one for that person which I promised that amp to. Everything worked out OK. I did get the amp back so I could pass it on.

That would have been silly but what kind was I going to get? :D

I'm not done trying to even up the score here.
I'm just afraid that one day you're gonna want me to help you get rid of a body or something.

You will have to ask him yourself. He has had so many speakers that I can not keep up.

:) But Curtis, I have sold alot. The basic story is that someone posted several years ago that they had gone to Chris's house and were blown away by his speakers-best they have ever heard, etc. I found myself reading his posts and was impressed by his knowledge. I have gone out on a limb before buying Jim Salk's first commercial speaker and that worked out well so I asked him for a quote and what the parameters were for his ideal speakers. He quoted me and I thought it was more money than I wanted to spend. I continued to follow his post and his following really and finally he worked up a slightly scaled down model. It was to have a switch so I could make it just a normal front firing speaker or omni. The rest of story is in this and other threads. Oh, one other thing. I know the cabinet resonance can be a problem, but I am not convinced it is quite the problem that Chris makes it out to be. That said, if he would ever finished the damn things maybe I would agree.

I have bought and sold a lot of speakers. I have definitely slowed down in that regard and sold most of my speakers except for Salks, JBL Pros, and Geddes. At some point I will sell all of them except my favorites (or my heirs will). I recently got a good deal on JBL Pro LSR6332's and I must say, I like them a lot (so I guess slowed down rather than stopped is the most accurate description).

If he ever gets them finished, it will be fascinating to see where they slot in, if you still have speakers by Geddes, etc., which garners rave reviews, but unfortunately, I have been unable to audition myself. I've asked Earl if there was anyone in the SE with a Summa or Abbey, willing to allow an audition, but I think the closest was VA IIRC. Hence me inquiring where you were :).
Why would you want a speaker that switches from monopole to (so called) "omni"?

If he is unable to finish them, hopefully a refund is in order.

cheers,

AJ

If you make me your heir, Randy, then I'll be your p0rn buddy. As to what a p0rn buddy is, it's someone, who upon notification of your death, goes to your home, job, or whatever and confiscates all your p0rn and deletes it off your hard drive so that your familial heirs can talk about something else.

So Randy are you going to conduct 3rd party analysis/measurements of these speakers if and when they arrive? What process are you going to take to compare them to your existing speakers?

I will have to consider this. Will you also delete it from my DVR?

I am in KC MO. This "according to Chris" is because the omni would be used for stereo with the proper room set-up (which is kind of extensive) but not something you would use for home theater. I also am not sure I am sold on "omni's". The interaction with the room can be problematic IMO. Probably better for Olive, Geddes, and Linkwitz to argue with Chris about it.

Oh, my. I was going to do a blind test of speakers and even had several exchanges of emails with Sean Olive, Dennis Murphy, Chu, and several others. In the end, I just thought it was going to be to hard to do a fair evaluation mostly because of bass differences. Also, my switch set-up, while it worked left something to be desired. That and the fact that I have sold a lot of the speakers I going to test (it was going to be bookshelves).

As far as measurements, I don't know. The speakers will be heavy so third party measurements would be a problem. Kind of premature, because i am not sure they WILL be finished.

Pretty interesting stuff randyb. Gene (AH) mentioned in a post a while back that he was having Axiom Audio build him a switch for use during blind listening tests. It would be interesting to get his thoughts on that switch and how well it would work for something like this.

LOL. I realize you are only joking, as that wouldn't be much of an "argument", any more than a physics "debate" between Einstein and Forest Gump :D.
I'm guessing your room is large enough for a multi-polar system. What is your current favorite of the existing group?

A true/valid controlled test would be very difficult, if not impossible to do with such various systems, as each may have a different optimum position in the room to interact..well, optimally.
I'm guessing you define "bookshelf" as "on a stand", because the JBL 6332 and Earls' speakers tend to be a bit larger than typical.
Have you auditioned Linkwitz's Orions..or anything from Audiokinesis, or ME Geithain?

cheers,

AJ

ps. my apologies if I'm pulling the thread off course, just curious, hope you don't mind.
