I am fairly familiar with ebay but still would like to know how you spot scammers ?
thx
some are easier than others and alot of the ones I see are 24 hour listings. for example, you search for a new bicycle and see 5 24 hour listings under different names, each with the same picture and description and something along the lines of contact me at (insert email address). Then it's the same email for each listing.
Also, when you check the history, the seller has been selling used shoes once every couple of weeks, and now there are 30 high ticket items, all with short auction lengths and they all start at some ridiculously low bidding price, like $39 for a $5,000 item. Once you get used to how they look, most are pretty easy to spot. Some are trickier. Take the one I reported twenty minutes ago.
It was an M&K SS-150 surround speaker, 24 hour listing (red flag) with a contact me before bidding message (major red flag) from a legitimate and active seller with hundreds of listings in a store (makes you think he's selling his personal speakers). Most of the legitimate account owners listings were for comic books and such, mainly low price items. No funky requests about bidding. This guy just snuck a listing into the other guys stuff, and asked for different contact methods to through you off. Many people would assume it was legit because the real account owner has an active and current good history.
