This has me thrown

I think the reviewer just finds the midrange to be lacking accuracy. This is probably just his taste since I didn't see any measurements, but his impressions could be indicative of a poor measurement. I haven't heard those B&W's but I've seen a lot of people complain about that carbon fiber driver. I'll put in a vote for the JBL's too.

Why would you so easily choose 685?

I am very fond of the B&W sound signature myself. In fact, I own a set of CM1 S1's as we speak. The 685 S2's are vastly improved over the S1 version. That is, the 685 S2's use the same exact drivers as the CM S2 series. However, the CM S2's series have a much better braced cabinet with a much nicer finish. The crossover components are also of higher grade. Thus, explaining the differences in price between the 685 S2 and the CM S2 series.

It really comes down to personal tastes. There is no right or wrong answer here. I would never put much stock into a video if I were you. It is much better to just give them a listen for yourself and go from there. Hope that helps answers your question. Good luck with your decision. :):):)

Speaker reviews tend to be subjective and preference -- and no ears are alike. You need to give speakers a test drive -- that is to audition. While YouTube can give some insight, I tend to ignore most of them and they are the last source that I depend on. There is no perfect speaker out there. It comes down to what is good enough and perfect enough for you.
I hate that answer

I agree not to put all of the weight on a video of a random guy vs your own ears. That's good advice. If you like em, which I believe you said, go for it. Fwiw, I like the KEF's in the background of the vid. Lol

I BOUGHT BOTH !
That's what I would have done. By the time these discussions progress for a week or so, the so-called "budget" grows. I started to build a system on a used gear challenge. Built a rather ridiculously robust system for around $75, and while I was listening and staying at home, I was saving $ without realizing it. Before I knew it, I was throwing $ at this hobby. That's how you fix this mess. :)
