I need new speakers

I'm in the market for a new set of speakers. Retailer gave me a price for paradigm reference studio 60 v3 of $1400. $700 for paradigm cc570 and $850 for paradigm adp470 dipolars for surround speakers. Is this a good choice and a good price. Anything else I should check out first?

There are many speakers you can audition before making up your ears. The Paradigms you have listed are great sounding and are not badly priced. Can you audition B&W in your area? Reason I ask is, I auditioned both side by side at my local shop. I went with the B&W 600 series for the sound to money ratio.

Good luck on your quest to find the right speaker for your ears.

That's an Awesome set-up for a HT system.

I'm not saying these speakers are better, because speakers are a personal choice. But You should also listen to these

Polk LSi series
Monitor Audio Silver
B&W 700 series
Mackie HR 824's

More than you can imagine. I suggest you take a couple of hours and read through the Loudspeaker & Sub forum here on AH. Then start auditioning every speaker you can in your area. The system in your post is very good if you don't want to go through the hassle.

.....outstanding, Nick....if one can listen to 75 different sets of speakers, you only have more to work with as you hone in on your purchase by what "your" ears told you.....

That is a competitively priced package, yes. Like others have stated you should audition everything in your price range. Here are some brands to check out:
B&W, Monitor Audio, Vandersteen, Canton, Paradigm (which you already have), JM Labs, Linn, ProAc, Thiel, etc. Also do not count out the Internet Direct brands from AV123.com, AscendAcoustics.com, AxiomAudio.com, SwanSpeakers.com, SVSound.com and AudioC.com. You can only listen to the speakers from these manufacturers by ordering them, but they all have at least a 30 day in-home trial period and some of the manufacturers will ship them for free to your home.

Take your time, don’t settle for anything and have fun. Good luck in your search!

First implies you'll be listening to others. Read what the others said.

One thing I'll stress is that, if music has ANY place in your listening room, I STRONGLY suggest that you do a lot of listening using music you're familiar with.

All to often a system can sound dazzling on movies but, once music is played on it, many may notice something lacking and they come to forums like this trying to find a magic bullet.

Ascend Acoustics, AV123, and Axiom all have their own forums where you can ask if there is an owner in your area willing to let you listen to theirs.

The ascend forum has a users willing to allow auditions map. Plug in your location and it will tell you who's around you. The 'digms are great speakers, but I found a number of other excellent speakers. I compared Studio 40s to what I own...the result of that test is evident, though also a personal preference.

thanks for all of your input. I don''t have too many high end audio stores around here so there is not much to compare the paradigms with. Just did my research online and heard the paradigms at local store and loved them. I guess the price they are giving me is pretty good and I couldn't wait any longer so I ordered the studio 60's, cc570 and adp 470's. the only thing I cheeped out with was the sub. I ordered the outlaw lfm-1plus as I will be pairing it all up with the outlaw 990 pre pro and 7125 amp. I hope this sub is a good choice as I needed to curb my budget a little and thought the sub would be the best place to do that. Was this a good choice to reduce price a little? How does this combo sound ?

Think of your speaker system as a cake. We all prefer some cakes (speakers) over others. But most cakes have icing (subwoofer) on top. I like chocolate cake with chocolate icing. Put vanilla icing on it and I don't like it nearly so well, lol.

To me, the subwoofer is not only an integral part of the home theater experience, it needs to match or exceed the quality of the other speakers. Just my opinion, though. While IMHO you could have gotten a better sub, it seems you have matched the elements pretty well and should thoroughly enjoy your new system.

Happy listening.

The Outlaw Subs were designed by Hsu

They are not low-end subs.

Sounds like a pretty good choice to me. I wouldn't say the Outlaw subs are low end either; you may be pleasantly surprised - better than a comparable Paradigm sub :D
