The Emotiva is a good piece. You would use your Denon as a preamp and yes you would use the volume on your denon....Hook up your speakers to the Emotive and run out of the Denon "preamp out" rca to the amp. Presto your done.......

The XPA-5 just went on sale today for $699 and free shipping. That's a lot of amp for the money.

Here's even more amp for even less money. 350 wpc 20hz-50khz -.5 +1 db, .1% thd. Into 4 ohms it produces 450 wpc with the same specs. Under $500.

There is nothing like more power, the more you have the more you want.

Seriously, I have no life.
I want a control that's called "More".

It is a curious phenomenon and one that certainly makes amplifier manufacturers happy.
I knew you're gona come back with something like that. Boring day isn't it.

Higher quality/sensitivity speakers will yield a more audible advantage.;)

It's a fact.

Were you wanting a 2-channel or 5-channel amp? I see you brought up the XPA-5 but I didn't see clarification. What's your speaker setup like?

But it's better if you the best of both worlds.
A 3808 is healthy enough for most speakers in most rooms.

One could spend $5000 on an amp, and not notice much(if any) of an audible difference connected to the same speakers in the same room, using a 3808 as the pre-pro.

It's a fact.

Seems to me you have a lot of facts, that's good, to each it's own. What speakers are you using.??

My speaker set is 5.1
Infinity kappa 7s main
infinity kappa center
infinity kappa 6s rear
velodyne sub

With the Kappa speakers I have heard the more power you give them the better they sound

Thanks Tim

I am using MB Quart QLS 830.
4ohm
87dB

I was running them off of a Yamaha rx-v1400 rated 110w @ 8ohm. Not 4ohm stable, and not rated for 4ohm use. I used it to run my system for about a year without any problems.

With a concern of clipping my receivers amp, due to the 4ohm load, low sensitivity, and large room size, I added an external amp.

Amp is an Adcom 7605, rated 175w @ 4ohm. No audible difference.

+1 Reduced the load on my receiver.
+2 Reduced the chance of clipping. Amp also has clipping indicators, which is nice.

EDIT: I added the amp for reasons listed above, not for an audible difference.

A heavy amplifier doesn't mean a better amplifier now days. A lot of pro-manufacturers actually try to shoot for lower weights for those of us who have to lug them around.

I'd rather see you buy that then some amplifier company that runs out of their garage. You're going to see all kinds of super low prices from these internet direct retailers that are popular on here because of the economy.
