Recently I had the chance to listen to small monitor speaker Totem Mite and I was very impressed by the quality of sound; specially how good the base was(tight and slammed). Now they are a little over of what I am willing to pay, so are there any another speakers similar in sound for around $400 a pair? - any thoughts?, thank you in advance.

I believe Totem speakers are generally voiced with more radical response curves than average in today's market; that is, it's pretty much voiced mostly by ear. As such, it is not likely you will find a very similar sounding speaker. If you have tried a lot of speakers and this is your favorite, either get it or continue your search.... what else can someone say? :D

Are there any HI FI stores (not big chains bb cc) in your area? I really think one should listen to as many speakers as you can before you determine which ones are for you. If you can you should check your local area stores and listen with your own material so you know what you want to hear. That would be the 1st option other than biting the bullet and buying the Totems ( which sound great)....

Thank you guys for your suggestions. I’ve came across some happy folks spreading good words about the Energy RC-10, and they were in my price range.
I leave in NYC and I did listen to Mites at Stereo Exchange. This is the only place that I know about that carries HI FI staff.
Andrew.
