I just won an auction - updated

I researched the model and I think they are older. Not a ton of info. Looks like the same tweeters that I use in most of my Minimus 7 sets.

Not that familiar myself....not particularly into the old stuff like you :) (altho for M&K I'd rather have the old stuff)

About 15 years ago, I bought two Minimus 7 upgrade kits from an ebay seller who sold hundreds of his kits. He has since disappeared and I think he may have passed away. But his kits got rave reviews. He sold his crossovers for Minimus 7's and maybe other speakers, not sure. But I bought 2 different kits. One for a Minimus 7 set and another for a Minimus 77 set. Both had his self-made crossovers and metal cone woofers and then the idea was to use the Radio Shack tweeters, which are fine or good actually. But he asked me if I wanted a couple pairs of M&K tweeters for free and I said "sure!". He also included some custom-cut mounting boards to match the original tweeter mounts. That was my first ever hearing about M&K. They sound better than the Radio Shack tweeters, so that made me a fan. And then later on, maybe 5 years ago, I purchased two more pairs of those tweeters and his Minimus 7 crossovers (these xovers use the original Radio Shack woofers) from him.

Why dwell on these older speakers generally, tho?
 
I am into vintage Klipsch. Aka Klipsch Heritage. As far as my surrounds and heights, just enjoyed the fact that I could build them up myself. We are all on a journey. This is how it turned out for me. One of my centers is new though! But it is based on Klipsch Heritage however. ha.

Photos of one of the first ones (Minimus 77) I built. The magnets are so massive, they barely fit in the cabs. I kept the Realistic badge on the grills.

So the M&K satellite speakers came today. I was super excited to get them all week. First thing I did was do an A/B test with these against my home-built Radio Snack Minimus 7 speakers on a two channel amp with an ipod playing mono recorded Beatles tunes, panning balance back and forth. Started with "A Hard Days Night". All M&K speakers tested fine, all sounding the same. But my Radio Snack speakers exceeded them in output, high end and all-around fuller sound. That 2-channel system has a Yamaha 50 wpc receiver and an 8" subwoofer, which I had off for this test. Then I tried (with 8" sub on) my favorite go-to song to test a system or speakers, "Stand and Deliver" by Mr. Mister (if you want a great test song, use this!) and again, my home-built ones were far better in every way. The woofers on the M&K's I believe are 3.25". My Minimus 7's have 4" woofers. I didn't think 3/4 of an inch would amount to much, but it turns out to be a pretty significant difference. And maybe that is the difference in sound. I did not use the metal cone set for this test. Those have unreal output and would automatically blow the doors off any other small bookshelves. For this test, I used Minimus 7's with stock woofers and tweeters and 2-way xovers I bought off of Amazon.
So I am a little dejected. But I can sell them. I will wait a few months so other bidders on that auction will hopefully forget about this listing ("why are you selling them already?"). But I am also blessed that my home-built speakers sound better than these that originally sold for $299 each 20 years ago! Makes me an even stronger believer in what I built. Now I need to build one more set so I can have rear heights in my living room system.
