I saw those cables too, but aren't those for audio stereo inputs? Like connecting the tv speakers to a dvd player, for left and right channel? I have a pair of red and white RCA cables, the real cheap ones that they give you when you get a cable box. Those are fine to hook up the amp to the AVR via the preouts? I'm probably not going to hook it up using the cheap cables from my cable box, but that's the type I should be using?

This is exactly what you need. It is an audio RCA connector as you mentioned but serves the same purpose. The Emotiva version is simply a more expensive split cable version. I bought the recommended cable from monoprice except a longer length. I have bought HDMI, RCA, and speaker cables as well a TV mounts from monoprice. Very good quality. Save your cash.

BTW, the amp will come with a cable to use for the trigger connection to your AVR if you would like the amp to automatically power on when the AVR powers on.

Here are my results.

I'm happy to say, there is a noticeable difference having added the UPA-2. At first, I could not tell. After 5-10 minutes I noticed the difference. I put in Metallica, the black cd, and played some songs. That's when I heard the detail, fullness, and the dynamic range of my speakers. I was waiting for my Focals to sound as they do now. I remember thinking, they sound and feel underpowered. No longer. I'm definitely satisfied with my purchase. I'm glad it worked out, as now I'll be set for hopefully quite some time. I felt like if I got the XPA-3, it might almost warrant an upgrade of my mains. Having just got these Focal mains, I'm now satisfied. I'm also getting some new speaker cables from Blue Jeans Cable for my front mains and center. Sweet.

There's my brief review. Overall, I'm happy with the UPA-2. It has definitely improved my front mains, at least to my ears. My roommate also said he thinks they sound better too, more dynamic was his words. :)

Glad to hear it worked out. I felt the same way. After a few minutes and different playback types, I noticed a big difference.
