I have a question.....

I'm just curious and I sincerely do not mean any disrespect, but why does an entity such as Audioholics, whose sole purpose is to bring us, the consumer, a no bull s..t approach to home audio and bring to light "snake oil" distributors, sell in their online store audio cables that cost upwards of $1,000? It would seem to make sense to me to only sell those products which they actually believe in and that are a true value in their price/performance category. I by no means shy away from expensive equipment as I have a pretty big investment in electronics, but eventhough I have many thousands of dollars in electronics, I have them connected with Blue Jeans cables, almost solely based on the many articles written by Gene and the other moderators. Is it just business??

Only the admins can truly answer that question, but there was some discussion related to that in this thread from last year.

Interesting point. I guess I haven't really looked around the A/H store at all, and I certainly would be less prone to even consider recommending them for cable purchases when there are alternatives out there which are recommended regularly within these forums.

That said, someone who has convinced themselves to drop $10K on cabling to improve their systems, I would rather have them come here and spend it, then go somewhere else.

What I think may disappoint me more is the lack of lower priced alternative solutions for cables and a real focus on some possible A/V solutions which could generate profits.

How about cables which are shorter and work better inside an equipment rack at a reasonable price. Sure, 6' cables are great, but two pieces of gear side by side only need a 3' cable. Sometimes shorter. Power cables... Man, IEC cables (D plug) and Edison cables in 1', 2', 3', 4', and 5' lengths I would think could sell well and shouldn't be overly expensive for a quality cable.

Still, the electronics look like they have a pretty good price point on them, or at least in-line with other full service etailers.

I would expect that it is still all business though. Just because it isn't something that gets recommended on the forums, and just because it doesn't get a 'well worth it' review, it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be sold. I will certainly sell one of my client's $10,000 in cabling or more if they want it. I won't recommend it to them though, but I certainly will sell it if that is what they have their hearts set on.

I'm guessing not much of that is sold in these parts.

A good retailer offers to sell the customer what they need. A wise retailer also offers to sell them what they want.

It is business and the AH Forum is in no way connected to the Store. On the whole, the fourm admins have done a good job keeping the discussions untainted and the AH Store managers need to do what they need to do to keep business viable.

I have never seen anyone push those cables or forum admins push towards an AH Store listing in a forum recommendation or advise thread.

Just read the thread from a few years ago. I guess am just late. ;-) I do agree however that although business is business, such products do taint the integrity of the forum. There's no need to have them there, specially if they've never been sold.
