Looks like someone got the "new guy." That sucks. Hope he patched all the holes in the roof and please don't tell me duct tape and a trash bag (wouldn't put it past any of those guys these days).
No duct tape but he filled the holes with toothpaste size silicone tubes I think it was 3M stuff, so what about the signal is 80 to 85 % normal ??

This is why I would not even let them go near my roof. There is no way anyone is drilling any holes in my roof.

I have a tree guy coming out tomorrow so we will see how much it is going to cost to have them taken down.

My HD service comes from dish network. If I am not mistaken, when I had my new dish installed, he told me the signal strength was 95-97%. I also know that I have no issues with the quality.

Google search gave me this from Direct tv Tech...

"In good weather, you should have signal strength of 70 or better on most of the 32 ... "

The joker I had said he had to get at least 70% to not get pixelization. My existing system is in the 85% and above range.

This was prolly the worst it could get for someone better his roof than mine and I dont mean that in a sarcastic way its just that the neighbor always brags about his mechanical skills and he sits back and lets a guy blast all those holes , shame on him.I realized at the end of the day the dish would have worked in the original first placement , I really think the installer panicked..

I'm currently a direct tv customer, having switched from Dish a year ago. Worst mistake I've made in quite a while. I want out, and googled getting out of my contract. They have a HORRIBLE reputation for just taking money out of people's accounts (or their credit card) with NO warning (can anyone say OVERDRAFT??). So now I'm just hoping that Dish will offer to pay the early cancellation penalty so I'll come back (don't know if they will, but I've heard that they might). I hate Direct TV, and miss my really good dual room dvr that I had with dish and can't use with dtv.... At least I didn't have the dtv morons near my roof!

Seriously, I have no life.
I have now had it. After the 3rd post I have put in the ground to be able to move to high def and get rid of the second dish, they have done it again.

"He told you to put it there? Well I'm sorry sir but that tree is in the way."

I can't take it. I'm actually numb at this point. I can't even bring myself to call them and yell. If there was any other way to get TV I would have ripped it out and handed it to the guy.

How can they constantly hire incompetent people. I mean come on this guy that told me where to put the post was a supervisor. I hear today that he quit a day or two after he was at my house.

So my decision is to now have a nice scotch and forget about it.
If you connect the receiver, go to Setup and when you get to the Satellite Dish setup, it tells you the azimuth, elevation and tilt. If you know the azimuth, you can use a compass to determine the best place. That way, it doesn't need to be repeated.

OTOH, if the posts are in the right place, you could always put up a volleyball net or a hammock. :D

What they get is determined by what they can pay and they can't pay much. Dish isn't always much better- tehy have some of teh worst CS people I have dealt with and yesterday was a shining example of how NOT to do business. DirecTV now uses Dish satellites, since Delphi closed and since Delphi owned Hughes, they (DirecTV) had to suck it up and do what they can to get people to sign up with them. I have had Time Warner Cable and now I have DirecTV. Time Warner is pure evil and overall, I'm happy with DirecTV. The picture quality and sound are better then Time Warner and I like the XM music. I'm not happy about hte Sirius channels that replaced some of the XM channels that were dumped. I liked some of them a lot.

Time Warner is wonderful compared with Charter. Charter has great CS people, but bad cable.

You can't hate DirecTV more than I hate time warner. If you did, you would be on the national news. :p

I remember their satellite boxes knocking me of the Internet all the time by putting crazy distortion on our phone lines.
