I guess you don't need to know basic Geography to be a County Supervisor in Wisconson

'Peggy West appeared confused about Arizona's location during debate about a measure that would have had the county boycott the state (Arizona) over its controversial new immigration law. She said, "If this was Texas, which is a state that is directly on the border with Mexico, and they were calling for a measure like this saying that they had a major issue with undocumented people flooding their borders, I would have to look twice at this. But this is a state that is a ways removed from the border."

Arizona Senator Kyl sent Milwaukee County Supervisor Peggy West a letter in which he says, "You will be interested to learn that Arizona does indeed share a border with Mexico. I have enclosed a map for your convenience."'

Ya just can't make this stuff up.

Remember, kiddies. These people are running our country.

I once had one of our salespeople call me to ask how much overseas freight charges would be to ship something to New Mexico. But at least she wasn't running our country.

I was at a sprint store with my mom a few years ago, and she asked if they had service in Hawaii. He said no because he couldnt find it under international countries:eek:.

This is nothing new, look at this article done by CNN four years ago, this is the future leaders of this country:eek: it's a real shame.

And it's just not the kids, here are some more politicians that messed up on geography

if you're gonna make fun of "a county supervisor in Wisconsin" saying something stupid, you probably shouldn't follow that up with a statement that a county supervisor from wisconsin is running the country.

Well, she's running a part of the country. Everybody's gotta start somewhere...

Seriously, wouldn't you expect (hope?) someone holding any office would at least have a passing familiarity with the geography of the US, no? Is that really asking too much?

That's not how Milwaukee is run. Knowing facts has nothing to do with what they do, or how well they do it.

Anyone who wonders why I seem to be usually pissed off- these people are a big part of the reason. My taxes pay their salaries and I can't do anything about it, other than vote for someone else.

And, since we're piling on the OP, at least spell Wisconsin right. It has an "I" in it, not an "O". :D ;)

Oh, the irony. :p

"I can see Russia from my house" a candidate for president in 2012.

I've met dumber people in Wisconsin. Don't worry we have several of them here too. Some of them want to destroy the Texas economy by passing a similar law.

You really thought she meant it literally? You might be the only person who did. I guess you've never heard of literary license.

I've understand there are some pretty stupid people from Texas (my two sons and their families are not among them) as well, but it seems that 18 other states want laws echoing what's going down in Arizona. I guess these are all stupid too, eh?

It is a shame that the good ones must be inconvenienced because of the bad ones, but who can you blame for that?

This article w/ pictures of the tons of garbage left behind is from 2007. I can't imagine how bad it is now.

One would hope the 'New Americans' would treat their host country a little better.
Especially while taking advantage of the great currency exchange rate of 13 to 1.
I'd also do anything if I could increase my pay by 13 times.

The law alienates half the state and opens illegals to severe abuse by bad cops. There are better ways to handle the issue IMO. 1 Put crocodiles in the river. 2 Set up a guest worker program that actually works well. 3 Fix the economy.

There are intelligent people on both sides of the issue, but this wouldn't be an issue if they made immigration from Latin America easier.

Why can't the President of Mexico do something about his own country's problems, instead of just saying "The Mexican people are nomadic, and have been for a long time. I can't stop that.". No, the indigenous Indian people were nomadic. Mexicans are the result of Spain's conquering the people, ravaging the people and land, assimilating and forcing their language & customs on the folks who originally lived there. As far as them saying that the American Southwest was once part of Mexico, I say this: Nobody asked Spain, Portugal or the other countries to come to this part of the world and claim it as theirs, thinking that God wants them to have it.

There's just one problem. Tina Fey said that on SNL while imitating Sarah Palin. Sarah Palin never said that. But, we won't let the facts get in the way of a political agenda.

I agree 100%, She spoke like an idiot and was clueless. This country needs to start taking this seriously and send the military to the border to start building the fence again. Then start to look for the illegals that are here and deport their illegal asses.

That's true.....but.
Without the law, it alienates all of the states tax payers, and opens them up to sever abuse by Mexican drug cartels and other illegal activity.

Actually, Calderon is doing something about his country's financial woes.

Why can't the President of Mexico do something about his own country's problems, instead of just saying "The Mexican people are nomadic, and have been for a long time. I can't stop that.".
The problem is just that you aren't gonna like the answer.

He exports his workers to other countries to bleed the host countries, much like leeches drain their hosts. And, the more the leeches take from the host, the weaker it becomes until it dies.

"Remittances - Mexico's No. 2 source of foreign income after oil exports - totaled $21.2 billion in 2009, compared with $25.1 billion in 2008, the bank said."

Full link here

Now, understand, this is money that could be pumped back into the economy of the "host" country in which it was earned to help local businesses. By not doing so weakens the host country.

Add that to the loss from paying medical bills, many not paying taxes (do you really think that contractors that hire day labor outside Lowes/Home Depot/gathering areas in some towns take taxes out?) and you see the financial hit to the host country is a bit more than one would initially think.

As Rickster said, with am exchange rate of 13:1, I too would be tempted to sneak into another country, work for wages locals can't afford to live on, live in tight quarters with others like me, send home every penny I could, and go home after a few years with a nice nest-egg that would provide for me for the rest of my life.

But, as this link states, the take is down as of late. ...poor baby.

Now,please understand, I have no problems with those that come here to start a new life for them and their families by becoming part of the American fabric by giving back to the country that gave them this opportunity. They contribute to our economy. But, to those that would bleed us and then leave us, well, let's just say I feel differently.

I don't think a human rights crisis would look very good especially in light of what the Bush era did to our international credibility. Many members of our military come from the families of illegal immigrants too. I don't think it's wise to bite the hand that feeds you. I think there are many reasonable ways to handle the issue. Unfortunately there don't seem to be enough reasonable people in Washington to deal with it. Our country was improved by legal immigrants it's high time we give the Latino community their legal chance to help us.

The law makes sense, but it's open to abuses by law enforcement.

I can overlook that error since he's not in public orfice. :D

we won't let the facts get in the way ...
Speaking of facts, are they just saying that when they do arrest somebody for breaking a law that they check their immigration status or are they talking about Gestapo 'show me your papers' tactics that can be pulled on regular folks?

I have seen a case where the authorities investigate, charge, prosecute and have this guy on some sort of probation while he was illegal as can be. I think he hit a parked cop car while drunk and he didn't even have a license. Then he fled the scene. :D He was a good friend of mine. Anyway my point is that they should have just checked his immigration status and shipped him out. But the people who make the laws seem to want illegals here so we seem to be stuck with them.

I think people from Wisconsin should only comment on what goes on in states that border Wisconsin ... and Canada. Kind of a go with what you know policy. Comments like 'it's cold out' and 'wind's kicking up' are encouraged.

Maybe we could set up some garbage cans at the proposed water stations along that route through the dessert.

Are you saying that the illegals feed Americans by having children on US soil while they are here illegally? You seem to have a real sweet spot for Latin Americans. I'm delving into your psyche here. :)
