They sound VERY smooth and refined in the mids and highs, and have excellent tight bass response. In comparison to the Paradigm Titans I auditioned recently, these blow them out of the water. The super delicate EMIT tweeters are in excellent shape, and the woofer surrounds have already been profesionally replaced with very nice replicas. With a 1978 price tag of $250+, I would say they are not exactly cheapos. I am not sure what a '78 price point of $254.00 translates to now, but I am guessing maybe a set of Paradigm Mini-Monitors or the like, at $400. The picture does no justice as my camera is a junker, they are in fine condition seeing as they are much older than I am!

I really like these old, EMIT tweetered Infinities. Good catch!

They are good enough to definitly hold me over until I can afford my 7.1 system of x-ls and a pb-12...

I don't know that model, but the EMITs I've heard are stellar. The slightly later KAPPA series hold their own against almost everything I've ever heard.

I have some Reference Series 3 (RS3) that are now about 10 years old that fair well against anything I've heard.

Those EMIT tweeter Infinitys were nice speakers, the speaker is also designed to lay on it's side if space is an issue thats why the tweeter can be rotated, that way you keep the tweeter and it's grill pointing vertically.

My self modded Yamaha NS-A636/Boston HD-7 Hybrids will serve as excellent rears since they have been demoted there, and the Infinitys timbre matches well with them as well. Now I need to find a center that will mesh well with them, my cheapo Onkyo HTiB with no tweeter is not cutting the mustard.

I have a pair of RS-3s from 1985 that I just had re-foamed. Like the others have said here, the EMITs are great sounding tweeters. I'm setting up a second system in another room with my Infinities. Listening to them again after a long retirement made me wonder why I bought new stuff.
