Enjoy!

Brad,

Very, Very nice!:cool: Enjoy --- Sorry you didn't like the music on you BP10s. I have some 2006s and 7002s w CLR3000. But the M-3si were and still are a class act speaker.

Enjoy!

That is a rear radiating speaker, right? If so, it's too close to the rear wall. You want 3.5-4' clearance from the back of speaker to rear wall. Place 2' from side walls. Now.... you will need a load of acoustical treatments.... lol.

I know they are a little to close to the back wall. They are about 2.5-3' away and they should be a full 3', but if I pull them out any farther they block the TV, if I bring the TV out then I have to move the couch back, and if I move the couch back, it is to far back relative to the surround speakers which I cant move w/o repairing the ceiling.... Anyway, I have put some thought into this and I think they are in the best possible location, considering everything else. :)

Well, due to the close spacing, I recommend using a combination of acoustic absorption and diffusion behind the speakers.

I got my Dream Speakers!!! :D:D:D

Just got home with a pair of Mirage M-3sis in "very good" condition as per Audiogon. I have wanted a pair of these since the mid 90's when I first heard them. Haven't had a chance to hook them up yet (or even unbox them) but I will post pictures and reviews ASAP :D

Brad
Coooooollll !!!
Now that I saw a few pictures I like how they look.

I found out how to take the grill sock off, here are a few pictures for those who love naked speakers.

Another perspective, this picture is from exactly where I sit, I need a wider angle lens for my camera.

After looking at this pictures I remembered what a guy from NHT told me:
HIFI is safe sex (exaggeration but I find it funny) :):p

It's hard to tell from the photos, but I would say those are just about the same size as my Paradigm Atoms :)

Thanks, these replace my good old BP-10s (original), I like black piano lacquer finishes also. I need to replace my Def Tech C-1 center chan with a M-Csi if I can find one. I really enjoyed my BP-10's over the years, but I came to find them not to be as musical as I thought they were. When I recently picked up the Athena S2s, they blew the BP-10s out of the water for musical clarity. I continued to use the BP-10s for surround, I like BiPolar spks for that. Now my Mirage replace both the S2s and BP-10s.

That is a very nice looking setup you have. DT has come a long way since the BP-10s

Yes, very close :)
Seriously though, those things are frickin huge. Just how tall are we talking here? It's also weird that they are much wider than they are deep, or are the photos misleading my eyes on this? I don't think I have ever see anything like this before, of course my experience is virutally nill.

I wish I could listen to something like that someday just to experience it for myself.

I had some time and played with the positioning for a while. Chris (and a lot of other people) were right, bringing them out to 3+ feet from the back wall made a BIG difference, really opened them up. They sound more dynamic and the sound-stage improved. Then I started playing with how much to toe them in, when I first moved them I had them very close to parallel with the back wall and I found that the bass was improved at the listening position, I had had a bass hole right at the listening pos. I found the imaging to be a bit less focused though. I then toed them in the same amount I had them before I moved them, the imaging returned but the bass went away again. So I split the difference and Bingo, retained the sharp imaging and the "bass hole" was gone, even better bass then being parallel to the back wall :) I was very surprise a few degree movement would make that big of a difference, but they are sounding better than ever.

An update...

I have upgraded a few components since my last post, most notably the Lexicon MC-1 running the show, I also installed a dedicated 20 amp outlet for the stereo. For stereo listening I went 2.1 & started using the Velodyne sub (my room really eats up bass). I don't use the Polk sub at all anymore in this system. For a while I had been running the Citation in 2 chan mode. The increased power brought out the bass better, but I just switched back to 4 channel mode "BI-Amping" the M-3s, so to speak. I have them set as small with a x-over point of 80Hz. With the Sub in the picture, I don't need the extra power that I got by running the amp bridged. It sounds cleaner, smoother and more open this way. It is mostly to do with the amp, which I have found sounds better when not bridged.

This is the best my setup has ever sounded, it seems almost perfect, I shouldn't need to change it for at least a week or two :D
