I've dabbled in the world of hi fi before. Always been more of a car boot story of guy. But since we discovered Facebook Marketplace we kinda stepped our game up.

People knock those of us who set up on a shoestring but you can get some serious sound for peanuts.

For example a new in the box Rega Planar 2. Cost £240. Why? He had problems with one m returned it to the shop who sent it back to Rega. He listened to a Planar 3 in the shop and bought one. He sold the 2 I got a bargain.

Speakers: I have Castle Inversion 100s. The speakers that bankrupted the company. Sound superb bi amped. On the Arcam A85 Diva and P90. Cost £120. CD? Arcam CD72 £40. Tape its Technics TSR232 I like them. Tuner is a Cambridge DAB unit. Got a Popcorn A400 media streamer that has the downloads on it.

The sound is on the warm side of neutral mainly due to the Castles but I like that sound.

My wife's stack is Arcam Diva pre amp and Power amp, Arcam CD, Arcam DAB, turntable is a Rega Planar 3 the 12 volt model. She had my Castle Conway 3s. But she wanted a different sound and got Dali 400s the non ribbon tweeter model.

We got everything from Facebook Marketplace. Including the hifi stands that were built in Sweden...

Just upgraded the bedroom amplifier. Spotted in local auction house. Pioneer A20 amplifier (matches the SACD in the bedroom). Got it for £18, so including premiums etc under £22!

Superb condition no scratches or dents. Perfect working order.

I have gotten some good deals on FBMP or crgslist. When my stereo had finally died in 2016, a friend gave me his old Denon 3805 AVR to keep and use in the meantime. I could take time now to research and decide what new amp I wanted to buy. Then I found a pair of JBL S38 for $200 local to me but I was put off by the copper colored drivers. The man ended up just wanting them gone and he gave them to me. I felt sort of bad and gave him $75 for them. They actually sound quite nice and I have had them for 8 years now. Between that and the AVR, I was rocking for $75, all of a sudden like. I could still be living with that combo.

I was so satisfied with the sound that it afforded me time to build new DIY custom speakers and subs at my leisure, all the while having great music. I listen to other people's systems. I'm doing pretty good. I would not want to trade mine for theirs. Now I have 12 pairs of great speakers and about as many amps/receivers. The Denon the friend gave me worked so well that when another came up for sale on FBMP for $75, I bought it too.
