I am going to cry...

I am selling some Kilipsch THX speakers because I need the money, will have $350-$400 next month or the month after to get replacements, I know, I know. I was leaning towards the insignia's but my woman didn't like them compared to the Klipsch duh right [btw I have the insignia's upstairs for TV viewing], so I was thinking maybe I should stick with a horn loaded tweeter, say the Hsu book shelfs that have a 6" woofer?? My Klipsch had a 94-95dB sensitivity and with a Onkyo 805 powering them, they could go to full reference volume with out break up, or if there was any it was masked buy the electrical panel that is in my home theater that always rattles at oh -10dB and up, so 95dB to 105dB+ There is a rattle.

Anyways, I like the looks of the Hsu, but looks get me and speakers no where. I don't care what they look like, but I do care what they sound like and if they can handle -6 to -4 on the Onkyo, which should be peaks around 100dB at 11ft away from the speakers I would be cool with that. My room is treated, and there are three rows of seating, but I focus most of my attention on the front three seats. Oh and I am only looking for the front three speakers, I have inwall THX select hi-fi works, that some day I will upgrade. And last my sub is a Epik Knight (15" driver).

So question time, Hsu? Something else?

Sorry to hear about your loss. I have the HSU speakers and I think they are great. I have no idea how they compare to the Klipsch though. Other speakers that use horns within the same price range are the BIC Acoustechs, maybe you should also look into those. I don't think you should necessarily limit yourself to horn tweeters unless you want to capture that Klipsch sound. Anyway, I would be interested in hearing your comparison between the Klipsch and the HSU if you do end up getting them, so let us know what you think.

Thanks for the reply. I am kind'a set on horns, but then my sides and rears use silk domes, so what does that tell me. lol. Anyways I like the limited vertical and horizontal dispersion, which as a compromise the Insignias at least have the woofer cone to direct the highs. The other reason though at looking at the Hsu's is that their sensitivity is high enough, and listed power handling is high enough as well, that I don't think I would have to much trouble getting the SPL's that I want. And you can buy them as singles! Which gives another thing I want, IDENTICAL speakers across the front. No horizontal center for me thank you, lol.

Well I guess when the money comes in, I probably will go with the Hsu's, and if I don't like them they can go upstairs and my current insignias can go in the theater, now if those insignias could only have a little more out put....

BTW, Room is 19'x12'x8'. With risers for the second and third row, so around 1,500 cubic feet when all is siad and done.

Why sell them? Can't you find some other way to raise funds. Maybe sell the receiver and get an old used one.

an 805 will usually get around 500 bucks. My receiver is costs around 200. That's a 300 dollar swing you could use to raise funds.

Shop Onkyo has the 806 for $550, mine is just a 805. And the $400-$500 that I could get for it, is not the $1350 I am asking for the speakers....

I had the HB-1s as fronts but I moved them to my bedroom because there was something I wanted to try. I bought some HC-1s, the HSU center, and am using those vertically as mains. I had to remove and rotate the tweeter by 90 degrees because it was aligned for horizontal use but it's bisymmetrically installed (having two planes of symmetry at right angles) so it only took 5 minutes to do. It works like a charm, and I love this system. I liked the HB-1s and I wanted more of the same, and I also wanted to have a setup that very few other people would have. I think they sound mostly the same except the HC-1s have a little bit lower extension and somewhat better dynamic response. Seriously though, that could be just my imagination.

I looked at whether that could be done to the BIC Acoustech PL28 center, because they have the same tweeter, but with larger 8" woofers maybe they would have even better bass response, but the top and bottom pieces are not even in length so it can not be stood up vertically. Oh well, I like the simpler aesthetic and finer finish of the HSU's anyway.

Ahh that's too bad man. The 805 is better than the 806 FYI.

Yes I hate doing it. And yes the amp section of the 805 is better, 806 has some more flashy things on it, not even sure I would use them??? I wonder what they are going to do with the 807, or is that out already?

Little more then what I would want to spend but the center should have lower distortion with the two woofers, at loud volumes, hmmmm, out of both systems did you go with just black, or do you have any of the different finishes?

BTW, thanks much guys, yes I was leaning towards the Hsu's the reviews and public opinion seem to be pushing me that way even further, but I have some time to mull it over.

And besides since I did try the Insignias downstairs and I did like them for $80 a pair speakers, I can always go to them for awhile and put the hsu's upstairs.

I just have the standard satin black. It's a nice finish, to be honest it might be the best for a dedicated home theater room, because it seems to just absorb light and doesn't reflects much at all. In this sense the speakers do not draw attention to themselves, they can hang back innocuously, especially in low lighting conditions. The piano gloss would be sweet too, but I am afraid that even a mild scratch would show up real well with that finish, so I just stuck with the satin black.

Ya the satin black is what I would go with for the theater, but upstairs (if I like them in the theater), I think the espresso would look great. So if I went out on a limb I would get three HB-1 espresso's, with the intention to get some satin blacks for permanent replacements in the theater. I should stop thinking about speakers right here though, cause I am not sure what the wife thinks cause she told she isn't going to talk replacements until the Klipsch sell. Well they haven't sold yet.:confused::(
