I'm pretty new to HT and I just finished setting up my new system. I powered everything up, and while I was watching a movie i heard a pop and the sound was gone. Someone told me that i have a possible short somewhere and my reviever's protection circuitry is getting activated. I've checked, rechecked and check again my speaker connections, and still te same thing happens. After about 5 min, the sound goes out. Other than the reciever being faulty whats wrong? Any help would be appreciated!
Whats the best way to find shorts in your system?

My system:

Yamaha HTR-5840 Reciver
Athena Audition 2 speakers (5.1 setup)

Do you have any wire splices anywhere? If so, check those.

Anything blocking cooling vents?

I think i have it fixed.

I don't have any wire splices...
I think I have it figured out - My buddy brought over his reciever and we switched it out.
Turns out I did have a bad reciever after all.
Stupid E-tronics!!

Thanks for your help though.
