The seat back height was one of my concerns when buying my chair and why I went with the La-Z-Boy's. They are nice and low, so you can still hear the surrounds and do not get any amplification to the front (similar to if you cupped your ears to hear some thing better). I have been really happy with them, but have minimal to compare them to. Haven't notice any lower back support issues for mine, although we usually sit in them reclined, which may explain some of it.

That's good to know. Thanks.

Buttkickers?

How about buttkickers? Are they worth the extra expense?

I'm in the same boat as you. I need some decent seating but don't want to spend too much right now - primarily because my kids are 1-1/2, 4 and 8 and they will surely destroy whatever we get whether it costs $1,000 or $10,000. Anyway I came across this site http://www.hometheaterseating.com and while I can't vouch for the quality, they seem to have some good pricepoints. I also like some of the offerings from Dania if you have one of their stores near you and the Lay-Z-Boy theatre seating seems nice as well. I will be keeping an eye on this thread as I hope to find something within the next month or so.

These are fantastic if you have the budget.

Stressless
(ekornes)
Those are what I had in mind when I mentioned the $10,000 figure in my post just prior to yours. If I didn't have kids I would probably go for a Stressless sectional or theatre seating configuration. For now though I am going to have to go with something more affordable and "disposable". I have sat in a few Stressless chairs though and they are extremely comfortable - and I mean extremely.

I've heard that a lot of people think they are certainly novel in the beginning, but eventually they get turned off or down real low.

As for chairs, I have some Berk 088's for my theater, and bought them locally. The place I bought them from bought a truck load of Berk's, and sold them at 40%-50% off. I lucked out for sure. I like the chairs so far, and I think they should last quite awhile, but we don't use them tons either.
