Does anyone have some experience with HT chairs? I've started researching them b/c I plan to use them, or something similar in my HT room. This part is still in the planning stages. What I've discovered is that there is a significant price difference with these products, and of course many of them claiming they are top quality. I have my doubts about some of them. On the other hand, some of them appear to be pretty good. For example, Premier Home Theater Seating appears to be very good quality. http://www.premierehts.com/
What I'd really like to find out is first some of the companies to stay away from. Then focus on which ones have been proven to be very good. I'd like good quality, but at some point I will have to set a budget. I don't want to go overboard here. Suggestions?

Great thread Soundman. I'm very interested as well. I'm only looking for a set of 3 to 4 seats for my front row. I have some links at home of a few companies I have been looking at so I will post those tonight when I get home.

I hope other members will post manufacturer, purchase price, purchase place (B&M or Internet) and maybe what they do and don't like. Just like I have read that several people say that the lighted cup holders are anoying and too bright.

Cheers,

Craig

Most everyone, anywhere, use Berkline. I've never sat in one, but they are more expensive that what I wanted. I know that AVS, maybe a year or ago, had a sponsor-firesale for good pricing, though still more than what I paid for mine.

I think with the current state of the economy, it might behoove some of you to hit up some local stores, if you do have any around.

I got mine from here, and it was the best deal I could find at the time.

They are a hit with anyone who visits. The cupholders will hold just about anything. Ok, I haven't tried a 40oz malt liquor yet, but wine glass, or a wide Belgian glass, no problem.

One has to use a good amount of force to close down the foot rest, because the resistance is very strong.

One of the footrests started to detach from the attaching bars, due to stripping. I reinforced every chair with longer wood screws.

Don't let that give you the wrong impression, though. I highly recommend them. I have lost count how many people have fallen asleep in them.

The actual back where your body lies, down to the foot rest, is all leather. The actual BACK of the chair, and the arm rests are fake leather.

They come in two pieces. Just slide the back rest into the slot, and voila.

Free shipping.

I have 8 La-Z-Boy Matinee sectionals. 2 rows of 4. the two center seats in each row are in a love seat configuration. I bought them at the local La-Z-Boy when they were having a 24-month no interest financing. They were special order. We have the microfiber (rather than leather). We also got the scotchgaurd (which has been a lifesaver on several occasions). We, and everyone else, has loved them. We found them to be much more economical than other options. I think we paid about ~$3,000 for all of them.

Thanks for the suggestions jostenmeat and Bryce. How long have you have your chairs? Good prices are appealing, but I also want something that is both comfortable and will last for a long time.

I've seen some at Costco from time to time. Not sure on the quality, but thought I'd throw it out there.

I have had the chairs for 3-4 years. Very comfortable and holding up nicely.

Almost 1.5 yr.

Don't we all? Do I expect pricier seating to be nicer? Of course. Why else would you pay more?

Are my seats extremely comfortable and functional as is? Absolutely.

Thanks for the info, Bryce. I'll keep that La-Z Boy in mind. I do like the love seat configuration in the center. :)

The selection of the correct chair for my home theater was something that basically defeated me. I had to turn to my daughter for advice. She is certified and licensed in architecture and Interior design. She selected these chairs.

They have been installed for three years. They are very comfortable, and I have had not one adverse comment about them. They are holding up very well.
I strongly recommend them.

Thanks - it took a year of planning (while we were house hunting and then having the house built) and 9 months of construction (I did the work myself - the building was unwilling to build it the way I wanted). But it was a labor of love.

i did a fair amount of research. my results :

if you are on a tight budget. check out the k-mart chairs. they are comfortable, the material is is pretty darn durable, and they don't look bad at all.
i went to buy these, but they didn't have 1 in stock(i needed 2).

COASTER. i checked em out somewhat at a local place. they looked good(enough). and were comfortable. but the arms were WAY loose. very well could have been a "show room" thing. even if it was a bad design, a little DIY could fix em up fine, i bet.

i sat in a set of berklines at a local get together. they were pretty nice. but the owner complained of a lack of lower back support. i agreed. i don't know the model # .

i ended up buying berkline 12006, brown bonded leather (didn't have real leather in stock :( ) . power.

my review :
these are nice chairs. but it took me some time to get "used" to them. kinda like a new pair of shoes... the brown color. in sunlight, in doesn't look that great = fake looking. with the single torcher lamp in my room, they look GREAT ! a very nice dark brown. the material is said to be very durable (many forum comments. and i agree). material "feel" = some love it, some hate it. i am in between. it feels real soft, but at the same time, it can feel a little sticky. perhaps 80* and no a/c. ..... the power recline = butt kickin, get it(if your choice offers it), nuff said. low backs !!!

now. 1 thing that never occured to me. and pointed out by the gtg guy.
CHAIR BACK HEIGHT !!! this WILL screw with your sound (unless you are 6.5').
what happens =
the tall backs block the surround somewhat. not only that = the backs redirect sound from the mains back to your ears !!! this causes issues !
i have heard it, and agree. btw, this gtg guy. he is a friend of mark seaton. i have met mark seaton, and heard some of his gear. just sayin.
