HSU VTF-3MKII vs. Velodyne SPL1200

Has anyone had recent experience with both? I currently have an HSU STF-2, but I feel its a little underpowered for my room and I'm looking to upgrade. The HSU can be had for $699 and the Velo is on clearance at my local dealer for $999. Is there an audible difference that would justify the $300 increase (subjective I know)? I currently have a 5.1 set up with a Denon 3803 (5803 has shipped!!) at the head. The room size is approximately 14ft x 22ft. I use the system for about 60/40 movies and music. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. I have briefly listened to the Velo at the dealer, but I need to go back and take my reference media. Thanks

go get the spl1200

wow ! this velo spl1200 really rocks ! with a sealed enclosure and the class d amp. the sound until now (using it for 2yrs) still amazes me. the spl is great for movies and music, it can give you deeeep controlled bass (no Boom) and very accurate for music . i have tried this sub will all my war movies in dts and dolby in almost full volume of my denon 3802 avr, this sub doesnt give up . it deliver all bass tones with hair raising experience.
my 25x17 room the pic frames are shaking, chairs too, u dont need a bass shaker if u have this sub.

upto now im very satisfied with my sub. maybe upgrade later if budget permits to a velo hgs or dd series.

anyway good luck and hope this help.

peace man

I wish I could compare the two side by side, but haven't. I have the Hsu VTF-3R with the Mark 2 amp. My room is 17' wide, 26' long and 9' tall. This sub is all I will ever need. I even use it now for two channel even with my floorstanding Dynaudios. I have never regretted my decision to buy the Hsu. If you try it in your room and don't like it, you can send it back without question, but you'll have to pay the hefty shipping because it weighs about 80 lbs. Good luck!

Doughn,

I believe 30 minutes is about the limit you can sustain high decibels without permanent damage.
