"Hurry, my wife is due home any moment!"
"Okay, okay, I'm hurrying. You could help out a little, ya know."
"Good. We have it hidden behind all these other speakers and the tv, now. She'll NEVER see how big it is!"
"Cool....yeah, turn it on. Turn it up."
"HOLY SMOKES!!! SHE'S NEVER GONNA LET YOU PLAY THIS THING."

Well boys, the STF-3 is in, but I'm gonna get beat up the first time she gets pinned against the wall in an LOTR scene.  How come nobody warned me about the HUGE SPL in this dude?

....Like a clam in mud! Oh yeah, this is one serious subwoofer. There might be a little problem with the vinyl finish, but I'll check on that tomorrow. Today, I'm just thrilled!

Fortunately, I recently bought a bunch of museum wax and now have a really good use for it. There is stuff rattling all over the house....AND my neighbor's house. :) I'll be on a rattle search and destroy mission for days. I'm not sure our builder built these walls to Hsu specs.

Buckeyefan....I'll get the camera lubed up tomorrow and see about posting here (any tricks required?). And btw, I like your new avatar!

Josh....I take it you've had that warm, cuddly feeling. LOL.

Good cheer all.

...and oh, uh, er, I forgot to mention...(gulp)

Guys. As happy as I am (I AM!!), there was one glitch in the setup maybe you have an insight on. When I first brought the speaker to life from the LFE, set it on auto, sub volume on 1/3, it didn't come on at the volume I had everything set at. I slowly increased the receiver volume, leaving the sub at 1/3, until it fired up...then, perhaps 4 or 5 seconds after coming to life there was a loud ripping sound. Yeah, it did NOT sound good at all. I suppose the noise lasted mebbe 1/4 second. It was, wildly guessing here, at about 200hz, and reference level loud (much louder than everything was set at). All seems to be functioning now as it should. We actually looked at the driver to see if something ripped, but all looks normal from outside. It performs great. The other speakers seem okay.

Any ideas? Cosmic rays? Screaming Yellow Zonkers? Help.

I am allowed to say the following....."The STF -1 was more than adequate for our needs. The STF-1 was more than adequate for our needs. The STF-1 was........" ;)

Actually, my wife accurately points out that you can hurt yourself with one of these STF-3 Humongosaurs. :D I can't imagine what your quad-subbed, earwax remover systems like Mulester has is even doing in a home of natural proportions. (Easy Mulie, you're but one example amongst many.) One couldn't use 1/10th the available spl's with something like that....well...and live to tell about it. ;)

Good evening RJ!

Didn't you tell your wife that you will use the subwoofer as an end-table? :D

If size is an issue now, what will she say when she sees a turbocharger plugged in? :)

Take care of yourself, and enjoy!

Sincerely,

Good evening back atcha, Peter.

You know, I actually thought of that. But I think she would wonder why her Saturday morning coffee keeps walking off the edge of her new end-table...not to mention, sloshing over the side of the cup.

Now, as for the turbo...heh heh...she NEVER looks behind "that electronic stuff". :D

Much good cheer.

Sounds like those Pepsi bottles may come in handy, eh ?

Gentlemen, didn't you know that one of the upgrade options we plan to include is a cupholder, using flared port tubing? :D

Have a great night

Sincerely,

.....RJBudz, it ain't got to be !LOUD!, just full, and at least approaching the sound level you would have experienced had you been in the studio, and had a pair of headphones on that carried the same mix the performers were hearing through their headphones....that practice makes for great harmony and balance, by the way, then the voice tracts are usually compressed a time or two for blend....I used to be a singer, boys, spent time in them studios....I even got a CD-R, non-profit, from one group I was with....actually respectable stuff on it, in my opinion....VERY effective, broadcast over corn fields.....

.....reference level concerning rock groups don't count, haha...ya' know what I mean, RJBudz?....huh?......

I lived in Southern Cal for a few years and thought I'd gotten used to the earthquakes until a 7.1 hit about 25 miles from us. So, we decided to move back to Oregon.

Now I'm about 100' from RJ's living room, and everytime he put on Riddick today, my wife and I dived under a table from habit. Maybe we'll move back to the San Andreas fault where it's safe.

OK, OK, I'm just jealous. His STF-3 is quite amazing.

Ooo you just made the anticipation worse

OK now how the heck am I supposed to wait a few weeks to get my VTF-2 Mk 2 after reading all this noise? Sigh. I sold some equipment to a drummer I work with every week to finance the new sub (plus a new console), only to find out he has to pay me in payments every couple weeks so I won't have the money as quick as I hoped. I know he's good for it but it's very frustrating. At least I'm very confident it'll be worth the wait. Hmm... Maybe I could hurry it along a bit if I deny him kickdrum in the mix til he pays me... He's using this little home-made 18" kick drum he made out of a floor tom, and it's so small he can't hear it over the band unless I pump it... Is that evil, or just doin whatcha gotta do? lol.

Congrats RJ. I'll join you in Hsu heaven as soon as I can! :p
