Hsu Hribr Subwoofer System?????

Does anyone know anything about this system? If anyone has pictures that would be great. There is little to be seen about this monster subwoofer on the net. I only know that it has sixteen 18" woofers.

Does anyone know if Dr. HSU is a member of forum other than AVS? Everytime I go to AVS my puny AT power supply craps out and my computer restarts.:(

Any help would be great for my research.;)

Seth, I do not think that Dr. Hsu even has a picture of this system. It was a large collection of cylindrical subwoofers. Not a single one was sold. With the introduction of the TN1220HO, one could simply purchase a bunch of TN1220HO's and place them across the entire front wall to get better results for much less money too.

Thank you, I had no idea that it never sold. Blue Book has it listed at $80,000 retail. Dr. HSU must have realized that such an expensive system would be very difficult to sell and now designs much more affordable speakers and subwoofers.:D

Yeah, that was the price. Since the beginning, Dr. Hsu has always offered high performance for relatively low prices. That system must have been something cooked up as a super flagship system. Many multiples of the TN1220 is just much more practical for a super flagship system, since they are only 12" wide and 12" deep. That means that one could fit 16 of them in a room just slightly more than 15 feet wide, while taking up only 1 foot of depth along the front wall! This TN array would also cost about $12k (maybe less with some negotiation), in comparison to $80k, and would easily provide a clean 130-140+db at the listening position from 20Hz on up.

Peter,

I think this could approximate a space shuttle launch!! :D Happy New Year.

Laughing out loud @ RJ! It would be interesting to try 16 TN's in a relatively small room like 8'x16'x12' HxWxD :D

A very Happy New Year to you too!!!

Oh really Sheep? Amazing how these coincidences work sometimes :D

Just picture it: 16 TN1220HO's lined up right against each other on the 16' wall. On the same wall, a couple feet above the top of the TN's would be a shelf built into the wall which would house 8 of the 500w external amps placed side by side (each designed to run up to two TN subwoofers in parallel; each amplifier is 19" in width and about 17" in depth).

That would be an awesome experience...maybe this is good enough reason for Dr. Hsu to bring back the TN1220HO. We could set this up at one of the upcoming audio/electronics shows :)

I'd rather have the spaced out around the room on every wall. That would be sweet, hahaha. :D

I think it would make a good stab at it anyhow:D
I wonder if NASA has a real number for the SPL at relatively close distance?;)

But imagine instead of TN1220HO's what 16 ea. VTF-3HO's with turbos across the front wall would sound like!

(I'll put some "feelers" out and see if I can find out the Space Shuttle's spl level at launch)

How about 215 db
That high? That must be at the launchpad. I've seen other figures more around 120dB. You could achieve that level with 'only' 4 subwoofers.

If he doesn't bring 'em back it won't be for lack of nagging on the part of the Hsu tube sub fans.;)

A jet engine is around 140dB spl and it is nothing compared to the shuttle launch:D

The only problem is that the VTF-3 HO is already 5" wider than the TN1220HO, and also has a side-firing driver which would require at least 2-3" more space in between each unit. So to fit 16 of them would require much more width than the TN's :)
