How would i go about hooking these speakers to my computer

I had a pretty decent stereo system a while back, and these speakers came with it.
I basically used the stereo as an amp type thing itself, because i always had it hooked up to my pc via USB.

the stereo part basically died, and i wanna get these speakers working again because they're super loud and i love them.

but am having trouble figuring out how to go about it.

here is the left side speaker so you can get an idea

some specs on the speakers (i dont know if it'll help but here it is)

GIGA-TUBE Low Pass Advanced Labyrinth Aero TUBE Subwoofer Yes
Magnetically Shielded Yes
Type 4-Way, Bass-Reflex
Subwoofer 6-5/16
Woofer 6-5/16
Midrange 2-5/8
Tweeter 13/16
Power Handling Capacity
Subwoofer 180 watts per channel, 6 ohms, 63Hz
Main Speaker 80 watts per channel, 4 ohms, 1kHz
Impedance
Subwoofer 6 ohms
Main Speaker 4 ohms

but the confusing part is they have the exposed wiring where i had to clip them into the stereo.
to make it more confusing there are 4 wires per speaker.

i think the red and black wire controls the normal sound, while the blue and black wires control the subwoofer/base.

So i'd need something that supports all these. thats 8 wires in total.

here is a photo of the wires

i was going to just buy new speakers, but all the decent speakers i found had pretty much the same hookups as these, so i'd still need an amp or some type of way to attack them to my computer.
so i might as well keep these, and just get them working.

I'd really appreciate any help that i can get with this, because i miss my super loud music that makes me whole house shake (i live out in the country so no neighbors to annoy :p )
Does anyone know of a good amp/reciever that'll handle all the wires and such. im a total noob. USB connection to computer would be nice. but not required.

thanks much

You are probably right about the 2 sets of wires for HF and LF.
You can test this by hooking each pair up to an amp and seeing what comes out.

If one is bass and one mid/treble, you can run them in parallel from a single amp output (per channel).
But...

If there is a large overlap of frequencies that both the mid and bass speakers respond to, the amp will be driving 2 speakers at the same frequencies.
this will lower the resistance the amplifier sees and may overload it due to high current flow.
This can damage the amp.

To fix this, put a Low Pass filter on the sub speakers cable to match its -3dB point to that of the mid range speaker.

I'll let others recommend an amp, but you'd best give us a budget.
That includes a soundcard (if you need to buy one), interconnects and the amp.

You don't want to use that speaker for anything other than the system it came with (I understand that it's broken).

The two leads are HF/LF. These speakers are designed to be used ONLY with the the system they came with. The crossover components for the speakers were likely inside the head unit. None the less, the end load of running the HF/LF in parrallel will be astoundingly low (around 2.5 ohms nominal, may go lower but such a thing can not be predicted just by looking at the speaker), which no average run of the mill (read cheap) receiver will be able to drive without shorting out. Basically in order to achieve the power required to drive such a load it would actually cost far more than just buying a brand new pair of speakers and receiver or some nice powered monitors like M-Audio.

Thanks for replies.
Then i dont know what good keeping the speakers will be. They are too big to just store forever.

i guess trash them or?
i dunno

You could always try selling them for cheap. There's a chance someone out there on eBay has a working head unit and is in need of the matching speakers. Stranger things have occurred.

I'm not sure on the real quality of the speakers, but it may be possible to repair the unit. Or even replace the crossovers. Please not it will require significant knowledge of speaker design.
