How to set decibels off subwoofer ?

First off all my set

Onkyo tx-nr609 silver
jamo s606 hcs3
2x yamaha yst-sw012

My question should subwoofer be set to 75 dB with pink noise like from Speaker setup level calibration ?
Because i barely hear or no bass at all if i set it to 75 dB and i do have a dB meter.
Or should it be set 15 dB higher aka 90 dB ?

My jamo s606 hare btw bi amped i figure since each amp is only 160w and speakers are 130/210 watt i do bi amp them anyway.

I dont hear much bass from my s606 either unless i set tone control bass to least 6 dB prefferably least 8 dB at 10 dB i start feeling the bass a little.

Speaker terminals are wired correctly asswell as follows low = front high = surround.

I came from a z5500 and even my z5500 set i hear more bass with the control pod set to default and subwoofer volume set to default asswell.

But my new cinema set with every speaker and subwoofers set to 75 dB Together and set to same volume indepently asswell i barely hear bass.

Its like poof and not like boom in scenes with masive rumbling like avatar where tree falls.

I want it to sound like it should sound anyway for now if set tone controls bass to 8 dB and each subwoofer to half way and subwoofer level to 0 in onkyo level calibration.

Each speaker to 75 dB subwoofers to 90 dB

My towers are set to inward because i fear if i set them outward that 1 tower will just bark into curtain and sound mufled.

also should i use onkyo 2EQ setup or just set it up manuely with my own dB meter ?

Because i fear 2EQ is messing up the bass from the towers with room correction however dont think it does same for my subwoofers.

I do post a picture off my setup but i cant untill i have 5 post.

I used to have a z5500 system, well actually I still do somewhere, and the biggest thing to keep in mind if you are coming from that is that it is completely different then a real HT/music setup. That is made to have big booming bass, however, audessey is known for not setting up the bass like that. People aren't generally used to how bass should sound, which is generally a lot less boomy then they are used to. You can always turn up the bass if thats the sound you like, but real bass that is accurately reproduced often won't be as booming as people are used to hearing it.

I'll also say that you're subs aren't necessarily going to overpower you. They're only 8 inch and 100 watts dynamic, which in the way of subs is pretty poor. Two small 8 inch subs with a dynamic power of 100 watts will definitely not give you the huge powerful boom you're looking for, even if you ignore audessey and crank the bass up. It will probably be distorted and not clean and tight sounding.

Using the EQ can be a big help in making sure the speakers sound good in the room and smooth out some of the room caused irregularities, especially with bass so I would say use it, then maybe tweak the bass level yourself afterwards. You should also do a bass crawl. Where you have the subwoofers may not be the best places for them.

yeah oke but they dont sound disorted at all however my question is should i tweak my subwoofers decibels to 75 dB together or 90 dB together.

or should i setup each subwoofer to output 75 dB ? and have subwoofer level at 0 ?

Anyway the way they setup now i can feel shockwaves comming from them at movie bolt where he flips the car at the start and hear rumbling car engine from the sub with decibel meter it picks up 106 dB max at ear level.

anyway if i let my receiver set it up it sets up everything at 75 dB even subwoofer but it sound way to bright it i dont think it will sound less bright if i had 2 12 inch subs

No don't factory reset after an update, yes you may want to rerun 2EQ, 75db is audessey standard, if you like more bass you can turn it up to 90db. My guess is you're probably still getting sloppy bass if its not distorted, but if you're coming from a z5500 and you haven't auditioned some really good subs you may not know the difference, I know I didn't.

The absolute best way to set up "bass to treble ratio" is what sounds best to you. None of us have to listen to your system, and you don't have to listen to ours. So if turning up the bass 15db sounds good to your ears in your room, go for it.

Anyway another question.

running 2EQ setup does it matter where i place the mic first.

like. | - | re repensenting speakers.
and . reprensenting first mic location because thats where i mostly sit.

-

.

or should i setup mic like this first.

-

.

because yesterday when did re set it up again it sounded way more richer having set mic in mid first but their where some parts off audio like trebble that wheren't loud at all anymore like seriously mufled that where quite loud still as if sound waves are canceling out before they reach my ears.

before did't have that issue.

my z5500 only go down to 40hz in my room 35hz dont even hear it anymore really.

my 2 yamaha subs go down all the way to 20hz easy then get a lot less louder down below 20 hz can even hear it a little still at 5 hz and it still moves air asswell.

Anyway these yahama subs are kindy just temporary for now.

Even people that come over agree that setting subwoofer to 75 dB is way to low they even think i can go a little bit higher still.

You need to set the mic at the seat where you watch movies for the 1st set of test beeps. That 1st test is how Audyssey sets trims, delays and crossovers. After the 1st reading, you can move it around the listening area.

What kindy peek you guy's get from bass test i love you during the first part where's their no bass and then the part where their is bass ?
For me its like 60-70 dB without bass then go's to 90 dB or so when the bass kicks in.
or something like that have to re run test in few hours its morning here so cant test.

However peeks from treble are much lower here bass is much higher
i like to hear bass pounding not puffing bass :p

i just dont hope it kills off the bass from my towers then i got a feeling onkyo is lowering the volume off the bass from my towers quite a bit.

then again i think due their loudness i think they are perhaps the cause off high tones canceling out.

so maybe i should set my s606 towers outward instead off inward my only fear tough is 1 tower will be pointed into the curtains and i fear it will just sound mufled into curtains.

my 2e fear is because its aimed at a window that it will break the glass if to loud.

Does tone controls aka bass when bi amping only effect towers or all speakers ?
or does it even boost subwoofer ?

because i read somewhere that tone controls only effect main speakers just dont remember where or maybe i'm imagining things.

Isn't your TX NR 609 a THX certified model? Under THX specs, all bass from all speakers is crossed over to the sub at 80hz, so yes, it is possible that the Onkyo is cutting out a lot of bass from your towers. You will have to go in and see where the crossover point is set, and manually change it to a lower frequency if desired.

If set mine to 60hz towers 100hz center 120 hz rears

thx setup preserve thx settings yes dont known what it does sound same with it on or off to me.

i had it to defaults when it was all set to 80 hz it sounded like **** and all messed up it sounded even worse then my z5500 untill i ran 2EQ again ofc :p

anyway seems i can let my subs now at 40% volume and subwoofer level 0 after factory reset seems like volume on every speaker got lot more gain.

starting to think that tone controls mess up 2EQ

It's not every day I quote myself, but I wanted to touch back on this topic. If you want to set your subs to + 15 db, I would play with the volume knobs on the subs, and turn them up so Audesy sets the sub level from -12 db to -18 db. Then, raise the setting in the receiver from -3 db to +3 db, getting your boost out of the sub's amp.

Yeah thats what i do altough instead i set subwoofer level to 0 and then raise the knob on the back off the sub.

so receiver has more headroom to compensate volumes upwards asswell as downwards...

anyway if been moving around my speakers and placed my subwoofers bitmore away from each other.

i dont really hear any difference so far tough if re run 2EQ and speaker distances it picks up changed quite a lot.

i had to move the tuba in front off the bass port or it would fart constantly tough during bass test i love you it keeps trying to suck in the curtains :D

Placing them outward made a hell off a difference even having lfe rolloff to 80hz does't sound any diferent from 120hz then i noticed my towers producing waaaaaaay more bass so i had to back down bass again on tone controls lol....

Here are my scores from audyssey (Onkyo 707):

Front L/R: 0db, Center: -1.5, SW: -15.0db(change it to -7.0db) Not sure why it was -15.0db I re-ran Aud 4 times.

Front: 100hz(changed to 80hz THX), Center: 60HZ, SW: 120HZ

Speaker distance - Front L/R: 8 Ft, Center: 7.5 Ft, SW: 10 Ft

Slight noise outside my window. All closed though.
My sub settings: Phase: 0, Sub vol: 12 o'clock position, Crossover Frequency: 220HZ, Bypass, Power: Auto.

What do you guys think?

Audyssey keeps setting the sub to -15 because the volume on the sub is too high.

Turn the sub volume knob down and rerun Audyssey.
