A couple ideas
Hello:
Can some one help me. I have yamaha rxv863 receiver and to get sound from 7 speakers I went to sound menu and picked extended surround and changed setting from "auto" to "PLIIx movies". But when ever I switch off the reciever it goes back to "auto". Very annoying. I tried memory guard on and off still wont work.
Any suggestions?

There are a couple ways to do this:
1) Follow the steps in your manual on page 100, under "
D) Initial Configuration" to set the "EXTD SUR" to "LAST" instead of the default setting of "AUTO".
This should cause the AVR to power up with the extended surround audio program you most recently selected (i.e. PLIIx). Note: You will still have to manually set PLIIx one more time after changing this setting -- in order to kick-start the process.
2) Alternately, you can define one of your SCENE buttons to select the desired video source, audio source and the PLIIx audio program when ever it is pushed. Follow the steps in your manual on page 40, under "
Creating your original SCENE Templates".
SCENE buttons are cool; with only one button push, they power-up the 863, set the desired video source, audio source, and audio program! Very high WAF (or SAF for the politically correct crowd
