Dug out my old LPs, very excited to play them-BUT turntable has hardwired RCA plugs, and new receiver's only RCA ins are for TV audio, which I tried and doesn't work. PLEASE, any suggestions, or am I up the proverbial creek. As an aside-this website has been unbelievably helpful-THANK YOU

You need an outboard phono pre-amp. It will connect between the turntable and the TV inputs.

What turntable do you have? It didn't work as in no audio came out at all? You may have to assign the input in the avr....but like Wayne says if your turntable doesn't have it's own preamp/eq stage then you need an external one as your avr doesn't have one built in as older or higher end receivers do....

will get the preamp. I don't doubt that your suggestion is correct- BUT REALLY REALLY hope it is as the only RCA inputs on this receiver are TV inputs. I cease to be amazed at your quick responses to my stupid questions. THANK YOU!!!

Thanks to both of you. What is a reasonably decent quality of pre amp to get? Looks like they range in price from $20 to $1500-wow!

Helps if you'd first clarify what's been questioned. Do you get no sound or some sound with the way you hooked it up? Did you check input assignment? What turntable and cartridge do you have?

ps If you're nutty enough you can spend far more than $1500 on a phono stage.

I have a Denon receiver. I recently, within the last 6 months, bought a nice new Orbit Pro turntable. Guess what I discovered? Just like you discovered: the Denon didn't have a phono stage anymore. The Orbit folks make one that I bought. It was right at $100 bucks. https://uturnaudio.com/products/pluto-phono-preamp

I don't shill for audio companies, but the phono preamp is no longer standard equipment on many AVRs. There are lots of them out there as you have discovered. This one works.
