I just got a new RX-V663 and I am having problems hooking up an existing powered sub. The amp has only 1 output and sub has RED/White/ Line IN and LFE IN/ ByPASS IN..... Do I need to split red and white into One and then plug it into my sub?????

Sub Problem

LFE in on the sub and then into sub 1 on the amp? It shows to cables on their website? I can get the sub to make a loud noise by accidently touching the RCA cable to something but nothing when I am sitting here watching TV very loud. I even have the sub turned up.????

Connect the receiver's SUBWOOFER OUTPUT! Be sure you aren't using the multichannel input. Make sure that if the subwoofer has some switch that designates it's using LFE that it is on. If it does not have a switch, don't worry about it. You should use the receiver's x-over and set your speakers to small for the best overall performance. If you are using the LFE input on the subwoofer the subwoofer's internal x-over is not used, so it receives a full signal from the source (the receiver). Setting the x-over on the receiver and setting the speakers to small is very important.

Make sure the subwoofer is turned most of the way down before you connect and start playing a movie or music, you don't want to risk damage to your subwoofer by having the level set to high and causing your subwoofer to overexert accidentally (not likely, but no sense putting your subwoofer and other equipment at risk.:)).

I am glad you got the problem fixed. I've made similar, more damaging mistakes before. Enjoy your new receiver, I know I would be.:D

Also, turn off your gear when you are connecting cables to prevent damage.

Typically not a problem, but then again why risk it. The kind of "Kill your electronics connections" occur when you connect something incorrectly. I have done that before.:(

Actually I though it was fixed but it was just bass coming from the other speakers. I checked the settings that were in the trouble shooting guide but nothing happened. I am really not sure what the heck is going on. I am noty used to all these new settings compared to my old reciever. If there is someone out there that could help that would be awwesome..........

What have you been doing your testing with? Music CDs, DVDs? How is your DVD Player connected to the receiver?

If the receiver is not setup correctly it either won't output over the subwoofer output at all or it will only do so when it has a discrete LFE signal. For example: If you have the DVD player connected via optical or coaxial (with the DVD player's Dolby Digital and DTS settings activited) the receiver will receive a discrete 5.1 signal. The .1 is the LFE track. If the subwoofer output is set to on, it should be working. If you put play a regular music CD and the double bass or dual bass is turned on, it should be working. Be sure that dual bass or double bass or front+sub feature is activated. Two channel music doesn't have a discrete LFE signal and the receiver needs to be set up correctly to derive the bass from the two channel tracks.

I am pretty sure I have the settings for the amp right as the way they say to do it acording to the manual. With my old amp the sub turned on any time I had the amp on. I am usually pretty good at trouble shooting these type of things but this one is throwing me for a loop.

front panel readings

There is a spot that shows the speakers that are in use and it is showing only the Left and Right but I hear sound out of the center/L/R and rears

Darn, I thought we had this one solved. I wish I had an answer at the moment. Maybe something will come to me. I would try some other trouble shooting. If you have a different subwoofer, try it. Connect a CD player or DVD player directly to the subwoofer with the subwoofer volume turned all the way down and gradually increase the gain while a CD or DVD is being played. This will determine if there is something funky going on with the receiver or subwoofer. If the subwoofer does not work with the DVD player directly connected try using a different subwoofer cable, sometimes cables go bad or you buy a new dud cable.

What make and model is your subwoofer?

Please report your findings.:)

FLOGG me NOW !!!!!!!

I GOT IT WORKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I might not had the sub on or somehthing goofy. I think when I ran the YPAO I might of had it wired wrong and then it did not detect it the first time and I kept try everything and it was all checking out good as far as the amps settings. I just checked everything from scratch and made sure it was right and THEN I ran the YPAO and sure as **** it worked.........And it makes a ton of difference. SO MUCH so even my wife noticed the sound quality. Now if I could just figure out all the other crap that is on my new amp as compared to my 7 year old one........WOW!!!!!!!..........Got to LOVE technology........
