Hi All...I am planning an expansion into multi zone audio and will be cabling my house in a way yet decided (at bare minimum full run of Cat 5e for my Gigabit LAN). The AVR 4306 is Ethernet capable, and i stream media to it. What im really trying to achieve is local control of the amp in the 2nd and 3rd zones...I understand it has RS232 and some 'IR Serial Remote In/Out terminals', but I dont know how to capitalise on these at a minimal expense.
I can control it from my laptop, but the Web Interface is clunky and too complicated...I am thinking that if commands can beissued over ethernet then I should be able to write something to control it...

Any suggestions here?

Control of receiver from other remotes

Here are a cople suggestions for controlling the reciever from other rooms.

1. VCs in each room w/ IR receivers: You will need a seperate cat 5 cable to each VC that will carry the IR signal back to an IR distribution system at the receiver.

2. RF rmote(s): I have one of the URC remotes and it works anywhere in my small house and should be good for a 100' range. You could have a couple extra and leave them in the remote rooms.

3. Distribution amps w/ keypads: The more expensive distribution amps have keypads that allow you to select any source in any room, thus no remote necessary.

I have a simple distributed audio system with a stereo amp and impedance matching VCs in 5 rooms. Unlike a more sophistocated distribution amp system (seperate amp channel for each speaker) all speakers get the same source. However, I can walk around the house and control the source from any room w/ the RF remote.
