My apology for not reading TLS guy's first post carefully. I went back to check the manual there is indeed a section on HDMI input. I don't know if my HDMI input is set to DVD or not. I will go check it soon. You also mentioned that i have to activate the HDMI output. Do I have to manually do it or it is the default setting? How can I do it on this particular model? Also, I don't think my cable box has anything to do with my set-up. I mean i can connect my dvd player with my TV with a HDMi cable and i can get signal on my TV.
I have had a good look at your 52 page manual. You need to understand all of it.
This manual is not the best and assumes quite a bit of familiarity setting up AV equipment.
You need to go through all the set up menus. Since you are new to this it will likely take you at least half a day.
Your receiver will convert component video to HDMI, but will not up convert the resolution. It outputs it in its native resolution. Connect your cable box with analog component cables, those are the the green, blue, red sockets. For audio for your cable box use an optical or RCA coax digital connection, whatever your cable box supports.
Connect your DVD player to an HDMI input.
Now after going through the speaker set up menu and procedures, go to the input setup. I would do the speaker set up manually first.
If you connect your DVD to HDMI 1 say, then in the set up menu you assign DVD to HDMI 1 for audio and video.
Now to get the sound to come out of the speakers connected to your receiver, you need to set HDMI audio to TV to off. This is very important.
Make sure your DVD player is set to output bit stream via HDMI
Now for your cable box video, select the component set of sockets you connected to.
For audio select either the optical or coax input, whichever one you have used.
Your manual makes no mention of up converting video resolution, so I assume your receiver can't. I think it outputs at the resolution of the input. So you will have to have your TV do the video up conversion, if it can. You have not told me your TV make and model, so I can't help you with this.
If you can't follow the steps and get it to work, you will have to hire a local AV specialist to do the set up for you.
This is as far as we can go on a forum like this.
I have a strong sense you are overwhelmed and confused by all this. I strongly recommend you have an experienced individual on site with you to get your system set up properly.
At the least you will probably need to read your manual cover to cover at least half a dozen times and make sure you really understand it. If it is Greek to you, this is another indication you need on site assistance.
