Folks

I am new to this forum and much less experienced than most of you.

I wish to build / assemble a multi purpose stereo system and want to know if you can throw some light. Apart from other things, I am trying to learn to play flute.

My listening requirements are

- I need to play some accompanying base music when i practice my flute.
- I listen to other flute players
- I (and my wife) listens to regular everyday music (various types)
- Later when i record my own flute music, I would like to listen to it.
- On weekend, I would like to connect this system to my dvd player to get that extra pleasure of my dvds.

Based on this

- I decided to go for active monitors to minimize complications and manage the flexibility i need.
- Since most of my music is on the PC or the iPod, an iPod universal dock would do the trick.
- i thought about genelec 6010a (without the sub ... at this point) but then I thought that 12W +12W may be too less for my room.

Do you have any suggestions for any good monitors that i use in my project.
And let me know if I have got it totally wrong.

thanks for your help.

When I first started getting into audio equipment, I actually went the used route. I found that a little hunting at thrift stores (and these days on Craigslist) it was possible to put together a passable starter system for not too much money. Granted it takes time to get something decent this way, but don't count it out as an option.

Just to verify, did you mean to say the best stereo for $50?
It would be much easier if you left off a zero. :)
For $50, I agree, thrift store is your best (and probably only) bet.

I'm going to assume he meant $500. Genelec isn't a budget brand, so I don't think you could fit that in at $50.;)

A zero can really make so much difference

Sorry guys ... for the confusion. :p

It indeed is $500.

I hope that it would provide us with some more flexibility.

Sorry again... it was well past midnight when I posted it and I forgot to double check. :):):)

Depends on how loud you like to listen, Genelec says the 6010A can get about eight times louder than a conversational speaking voice.

Genelec 6010/ Truth B2031A / KRK RP6

Thanks for you inputs.

JVGILLOW, I had considered audioginie 5, but somehow it did not convince me too much. The first thing that I did not like was the fact that one speaker houses an amp and the other one is passive. This might not be true but it means to me that the amp and the drivers may not be a perfect match.

No. 5, I did listen to the 6010a in a shop but it did not seem so loud. However, the quality was pretty good.

I have finally narrowed down my choices to

Genelec 6010a
Behringer B2031A
KRK RP9 G2

I know that KRK's are much more expensive than the other 2. However, i am ready to invest that extra if its worth it.

thanks for your feedback in advance.
