Yes, many of us (including me) would all trade it for that $50K (insert magic dollar figure) dream job, but not back to flipping burgers from 4PM - 12PM like we did as teenagers (or some version thereof) for barely more than minimum wage.
And, while many people love the idea of doing certain things that they enjoy as a hobby, full time... I always find that there is a big difference when you try to make your hobby, a career. I loved photography, but getting a job in it was very spotty and very inconsistent. Accounting was a guaranteed job... but boring. Riding my bike only worked when I was on tour. It all gets old and takes the fun out of the hobby. On the other hand, if I was paid $200K a year to ride my bike and tour, I would consider it for sure - but I have a wife and kid... so probably wouldn't do it anyways.
Making furniture for a living... might be fun... if you are ready to sell at that stuff, work 16 hour days and likely make no money for a number of years.
Don't get me wrong, it's the way small businesses start and the way a lot of people choose to make their lives... But, not as many people are doing that (even though they may dream of it) at 50 as they are in their 20's. The 50 year old set is kind of what I am talking about here as it matches the Caddy/Zep generation.
