How many speakers can I add to this amp?

I have a newer Harmon Kardon audio receiver/amp. 120 watts, 2 channel audio (I guess is the term - has "speakers 1" and "speakers 2") I have a speaker on each post of the four - and want to know if I can add another pair or two of speakers, piggy backed on to the existing ones for adjacent rooms without frying the amp.... can I get away with it safely? If not, whats my option to add two pair of speakers?

It is really only safe to run one set of speakers at a time. You can not even rely on a manufacturers impedance rating.

each of the 4 binding posts on your harman receiver can only run ONE (1) 8 ohm speaker. (if all 4 are used)

if only 2 are used, each of the two can accept up to 4 ohms of speaker load.

so if any one of those speakers are below 8 ohms, you're already in danger of frying your amp.

speaker 1 and speaker 2 was really meant to switch speakers instead of actually running two pairs of speakers at the same time unless you know exactly what you are doing.

Speaker Selector Switch with Impedance Protection

One of these switches (there are many others) will allow you to run up to four sets of speakers safely, but ENSURE the impedance protection circuit is ALWAYS enabled, or the warnings of the wise previous posters will come true!:(

I have been using this model with great success driving between one and three sets of speakers (i.e. 2-6 total) for a couple years now.

Do not make the mistake of connecting this speaker selector switch to "Speaker 1" and a set of speakers to "Speaker 2" (or vice versa)--instead, connect all speaker sets to the SS4 speaker selector switch.

Cheers,
