How many of you have no "WAF", rather a wife encouraging factor?

As did we all! :D

That's exactly what I was thinking. I would have to trade my house to duplicate that system.

My gal doesn't live with me, but I still let her have plenty of say when it comes to my apartment. I really have no sense of interior design, so I let her suggest paint colours for walls, fabrics for drapes, etc. When it comes to my low-end HT, she doesn't understand one thing about it. Although she can turn on the system to whatever she wants to do, even without a universal remote. We were talking a week ago about buying a house together. I told her that I have no problem with her being in charge of every other room, but I was to be in charge of the basement home theatre. She agreed immediately, totally without hesitation; I think that although she could get by without surround sound, she really likes it. :)

cheers,
supervij

My wife loves the home theater. For instance, she's the reason I got one of the programmable remotes...because she enjoys it but was confused by the stack of 5 remotes. (she has to show off the remote to all of our guests...especially the fact that I got the lighting control programmed into the remote)

She helped pick out the TV (which got me a more expensive one than I'd planned) and wants to help pick out speakers when we can afford them, because she's picky about how things sound. The way things work is, I do the research and check things out a head of time. Build a short-list, and then she'll come with me and give it a test as well...and pick from the shortlist, or ask if there are any others we can look at as well.

So yeah...its nice having a wife who's very understanding of your hobbies.

While away on a business trip I received an emergency call from my wife. She had blown the speaker fuses in my power amp from sustained loud volume. They were 5 amp fuses.
She only wanted to know where the spare fuses were and how to replace the blown ones. She said "I've been playing music really loud all day and the sound suddenly stopped". I suspected she had dropped the tone arm on some vinyl and didn't want to say. I suggested she turn down the volume when changing records. After that I never wondered why she never complained about the volume I used for listening.

My wife is still coming out shock when my ISD12/2 arrived (her face was priceless  ). After it was calibrated and watching "Band of Brothers" she was speechless and no I don't like to torture my wife :D

WAF isn't a factor for me. FAF is... Family Acceptance Factor. All of my gear goes into the living room and the rest of my family isn't too crazy about it. My dad likes it but my mom and brother don't. When I built my behemoth subwoofer, that wasn't too popular, especially when it literally shook the master bedroom upstairs. :D

I'm 19 and won't have a wife for a while. I'll listen to Tom Leykis on that one. ;)

I am very lucky. My wife would not be impressed watching a movie without a good system around it. On top of it she loves road racing and watches all the races with me.

Having your own space that is NOT in the living room can certainly minimize a lot of friction about decorating, speaker size, subs, etc.

Even so, my wife has always been pretty supportive. About 3 years after we got married, we bought our first house. The living room was about 12x14. I bought a pair of Acoustat Monitor 4's and had them pulled out 4' from the wall. (for those of you not familiar - those are about 5' tall, 3.5' wide, and about a foot deep if you count the tube amps built into the base).

She just rolled her eyes and joked with our friends that the living room was decorated in 'early speaker.'

The trick is that they have to know going in that you're an audio head and things like this will happen over time.

Now that I have my own room, the living room system has been scaled back to a nice set of Snell bookshelves flanking the 55" Mits Diamond. She's happy, I'm happy, and both rooms sound and look good.

I've been married for 41 years. My wife loves my (our) HT/music setup, even though she doesn't have a clue about the technology. I feel like I'm a pretty lucky guy.

My wife actually enjoys home theater alot, she purchased the Def Tech Trinity Sub because she enjoys the LFE in movie soundtracks and she also purchased the Pioneer Elite DV-79AVi for me because she heard me talking about it 1 day... She has helped me with the designs for our dedicated theater room in our new house and even wants me to do a concession area to boot.

I am lucky, but we fight about other things.lol
