How do you match a receiver to speakers?

First, I'd go listen to as many speakers that you can.
Then..find an AVR that can drive them properly.

Speaking of speakers:
Both Wharfardale and KEF are respectable and high quality speaker makers, but Wharfardale is trying harder to bring more bang for a pound
While I didn't heard the towers you're looking at, A while ago I did auditioned Wharfardale Diamond bookshelfs and enjoyed the sound a lot. Quite warm and pleasing, yet very precise.
Highly preferred is you find local brick and mortar store and listen them for yourself.
Specifically, between these Wharfardale and KEF towers - while both at 88db sensitivity, KEF is spec'd at 8Ohm which would be easier load for you receiver - you could get them to play louder.
Also between Non-Elite Pioneer's and Yammi - I'd take Yammi any day

Hmm, This pioneer seems to be equivalent of US Elite SC-37 model - Which is top of the line - ie WAY too much overkill for you
Like I said - I'd prefer Yamaha over NONE Elite Pioneer series since later do grossly over state their amplification performance, but Elite Series, like the one you linked - don't have this problem.

Once you have selected your speakers, if the Yamaha RX-V667 can drive them adequately, unless you need some feature not found on it, a higher end model will be a total waste of money.

Most people do not spend their money in a manner that actually optimizes sound, as they tend to spend too little on their speakers, and too much on other things that do not affect the sound, or do not affect it as significantly as the speakers.

Run.... don't walk as far away from them as you can. These are known as White-Van speakers, and though they may look impressive, they are in fact good for nothing more than the recycle bin.

Further looking shows there may be some difference between the scam being run here in the States, and the Australian market. When dealing with Eprey, all I can say is "Buyer Beware"...

Given what the Wikipedia article states, I would recommend in Australia only buying them from a dealer where one went and listened to them and compared them with other speakers, and would not buy them online at all, as one is likely getting the cheap knockoffs that way.
