How do you guys shut the monster cable lovers down?

I agree that women do hear things differently, I passed a waiting room in the hospital I work at and they had "The View" on and every female was glued and listening intently to the screen, while all I heard were crows cackling at each other. :D

Seriously, you guys are dead on, women love higher frequencies and can hear them far better than a man can, where men can hear bass vibrations better and women just feel that "thumping" and think bass is a horrible sound. Men are from Mars, Women from Venus kinda thing, hence we love electronic gear and they can't understand that and women love the shoe and clothes shopping thing and we men will never comprehend this.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:Really? :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I will admit that while channel surfing, we watched an American Idol contestant for a few minutes about a year ago...

Spouse: "Man, that was awful! How can someone sing, and not hit one single note correctly? Yuck"

Me: "Sounded good to me..."

Simon: "Terrible! Totally off key! Pack your bag, your gone!"

I thought it was intresting then, but it makes more sense now.

My motto when it comes to buying any sorts of cable is:

'I don't care how good it is as long as it is cheap'

In the UK we don't have moster cable, but we still get charged stupid prices, how about £16.99 REDUCED from £19.99 for a GOLD PLATED 1m SCART cable?
To me the difference between copper and gold is so minimal theres no point paying more. I can get the same thing non gold plated for just £2 to £3.

If howver someone like is selling expensive speaker cable cheap, then I will get it if its the cheapest. I managed to get 10m of 15AWG flat Belkin speaker cable for just £7, when it would usually cost about £25 to £30. Proper thick speaker cable is difficult to get hold of in the Uk without paying a fortune, normally I would pay about that for 10m of 18AWG speaker cable.

Copper is copper is copper....

Gold doesn't oxidize: hence the popularity of gold-plating connectors.

Copper is copper is copper....
Gauge matters... and "actually defective" is a problem. Other than that I agree.

To be honest though, unless you have your HT in an extremely salty or oxygen rich atmosphere, then they are not going to oxidise or corrode. Except in extreme cases, we are talking miliohms, which no one will recognise. The only reason that gold is so hyped is because the consumers associate it with being the best, its a waste of money! As is OF copper, the differences we are talking about is mili or microohms. Anyway silver has a lower resistivity than gold or copper and it does not oxidise except under very concentrated rich oxygen levels, there will be absolutely no difference whatsoever.

When I said copper is copper is copper, I meant in relation to overpriced brand cables like monster audio and belkin.

I notice that the Statue of Liberty can't manage to remain "copper", it keeps turning a shade of green.

I spent time last month scouring rust off an amplifier.

Remember. I live in Florida.

I've had tin oxidize. Some rubbing alcohol fixes it right up. I've never seen copper leads on a patch cable anyway. I think about oxidation... but not much.

The only accurate part of your statement is: "silver has a lower resistivity than gold or copper"

Oxidation happens everywhere; it's speeded up under certain situations / conditions.
Anywhere dissimilar metals are used,(the reason for gold plated connections) outdoors, or indoors in humid conditions, and in high salt environments, and where people smoke.

Don't forget the notorious Chinese drywall...

Seriously, I have no life.
I heard of it but forgot about it. Please expand on it.
The materials used absorb water more readily than domestically produced drywall and it also promotes mold and mildew growth when it gets wet, instead of having inhibitors.

I was on a job a while back, and they were testing a building to see if it had Chinese drywall.
It sounds like a real mess, because the sheets are intermixed with good stuff. So they have to test every few feet; by cutting out a small piece.

It turns out that humidity and heat cause the sulfur in the tainted drywall to offgas. Those fumes are corrosive to copper, and the fumes aren't safe to breath.

I had forgotten about the sulfur. That stuff stinks on a good day.

Please forgive a Noob question, but how does one recognize quality cable, from poor quality cable and over priced cable - especially if one is shopping the internet?

The easiest thing to do is just to hit a known source. Speaker cable is very not fussy (you can go to Home Deopt if their price is good). Interconnects only slightly more.

We highly recommend Monoprice.com (cheap and good) and bluejeanscable.com (inexpensive and excellent).

Thanks all, now I remember.
That is what we get for going everything on the cheap side, and China:mad:

Just imagine the mess if most of the walls are had it:eek:
