How do you attach bookshelf speaker to stand?

Im getting in my new TSC 6.5" bookshelves today to round out my speaker system. I've got bookshelf stands and my question is, do I secure them in anyway or do they just sit on top the stand. The top pedestal on the stand is 4"x5" and the speaker from memory is something like 6"x10". So does the speaker just kinda sit up there and you pray no one knocks it over? Do people glue them or double sided tape?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

2-4 screws (small 4 or 6 size) from the underside of the top stand plate that go 3/8-1/2" into your speaker bottom. At least that is what I have always done.

I have always used Velco, you don't want to damage your speakers.

Blu-tack is popular and some use Velcro. I prefer Blu-tack or an equal to it. (other companies make this type of adhesive puddy) Blu-tack doesn't leave a mark while Velcro has a PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) that will leave a mark that may or may not be removable with something along the lines of Goo Gone.

Blu-tack also helps decouple the speaker from the stand.

Velcro would be more secure. (think kids and dogs...)

I have my DT Studio 450's sitting in 5' metal plant stands and a klutzy GF. So I secured mine with a flat bungee cord going around the speaker and around the metal plate. It would take a very serious push to knock those down.

The only way to make a speaker stand + bookshelf combination somewhat less likely to topple over is to make user that the base is larger than the speaker and very heavy. The goal is, if the stand tips over a little, the center of gravity should be such that it prevents a complete fall. For this to work, the speakers need to be completely bonded to the top plate (velcro, screws or blu-tack).

If the idea that someone will knock over the stand and speaker is even a consideration, it is then an eventuality that it will fall. Mounting the speakers on the wall should be seriously considered.
