Hey guys!
First time posting! haha
Great site everyone!

Today Ive decided to seek some advice of the pro's!
I was wondering how I would go abouts in doing this:

I have a 6.1 surround sound system.
Pushed By a Yamaha RX-V850 AV-Reciever
My front L/R channel speakers are Tannoy Mk2's

I have a yamaha b-2 Power Amp. Its been sitting around for years.
when I watch bluray disks, I want to obviously listen to it in 6.1 surround, Via my RX-V850.
But when I listen to music, I want to use only the Yamaha's B2 Amp, And Only the Tannoys.

How would I go about wireing this up?
Thanks for any input or advice everyone!!
Alan

You would wire it up the same way, via the preamp outs from the receiver (providing it has them). The benefit being that movies will enjoy any benefit that the amp provides you for music. I only have my front 3 on amps, the surrounds are powered by the receiver.

Sorry, that wasn't exactly clear :) What I meant was, simply hook it up via the preamp outputs and it will function seamlessly regardless of what you are listening to. If it benefits you to have the amp in the equation for music, then it will for movies too. Having the amp hooked up won't affect your 6.1 sound.

what do you mean by the same way?
The receiver setup would be exactly the same except the amps for the L/R channels would NEVER be used even when you are watching movies.

The receiver doesn't differentiate what the source or processing mode is when it comes to using the amps.

i could be wrong but wouldnt the remaining channels then get more power? so everything would benefit... I first did this with my denon avr 3200 and it seemed liek the rears sounded better when I added a 3 ch amp to the front.

Sort of. They don't get more, they just don't have to fight for a smaller piece of the pie, so the result is more available for them.

Thanks for the replys guys!

So you guys are saying when the AVR is in the surround "mode" The preouts on the AVR would only have the front L/R signal running out of them?

It also depends on how the onboard amps are designed. There are a few variables that need to be factored in.
