How do I wall mount 30 pound bookshelf speakers?

Or is this simply too heavy?

Very carefully. :D

Just kidding, of course. Are you wanting to be able to swivel the speakers, or just mount them rigidly? I know that you can get rigid brackets (that you'd put into a stud) that can hold 30 pounts (here's one example). [STRIKE]I'm not sure about swivel mounts. Others here probably know, though.[/STRIKE]

EDIT: Even better! Here's a swivel mount that will hold up to 55 pounds!

I don't know if this will help, but there is also a solution for mounting a speaker between studs. At my local mom-and-pop hardware store, I bought some special bent steel "heavy picture/mirror" hanging hooks. They are about 4" long with a 1/2" drywall offset in the middle. You drill a 1/4" hole in the wall and insert the top offset into the hole facing upright. The bottom of the offset is on the outside of the wall. This puts the pressure from the weight of the hanging item on the top inside and bottom outside of the drywall, so it would take a lot of force for them to break through the drywall. I think the hook was rated for about 50 lbs, but if may be different. You could use screws and picture hanging wire or devise some other means of hanging the speakers from the hook. The hooks cost me about $5 a piece, but thats probably pretty inexpensive compared to most speaker brackets you can buy or make.

White shelf into stug and a Toggler

Thes shelves are rates at 20 lbs. Buti s you use a large screw into studs you can support 30 lbs.

And if you can't find two studs, then use one of these:

Say, they look sharp as well. :) Who makes those?
I have no idea. I bought 'em for $16 shipped from a member (The Dali). I modified them by getting rid of the front potion of the clamp and carefully placed some holes in the back clamp to allow screws to attach the speaker.

I liked your mounts because of the side clamp action but it was tough for me to cough up $80 at the time to mount $50 speakers. AH to the rescue! :)

"Honey, but they're only $10. Please give me my balls back!" :D

I'm not proud, but I used heavy duty gate hinges to mount my surrounds. The speakers are 15 pounds and have a lag bolt hole in the back for mounting.

I installed the lag bolt to the center of the T section on the hinge (the part that usually mounts to the gate). The other part of the hinge (which usually mounts to the post) is mounted to the wall with four screws. I can't swivel the speaker but I can adjust the angle up and down by adding foam spacers. The pin on the hinge is at the top. I may have to take a photo and post.

Maybe its better you went with those... Imagine your balls in those side clamps :p

Seriously, I have no life.
Billy Mays says Hercules Hooks will hold up to 150 pounds.
